Daisy was born on October 3, 1926, in Morant Bay, St. Thomas, Jamaica to David and Sarah Bailey. She grew up alongside her brothers Leonard and Septie, and her sisters Vie and Venetta. From those early years in Jamaica, the foundation of her character was formed – faith, resilience, love of family, and a deep sense of responsibility.
After attending elementary school in Morant Bay, she continued her education at Bennett College in Kingston. She later worked with the Public Water Department in Kingston, beginning what would become a lifetime of dedicated service.
In 1957, she married Huntley Restal in a beautiful ceremony at St. George’s Church in Kingston, surrounded by family and friends. Their journey together soon took them to England, where Daisy worked for many years, including 11 years at Selfridges Department Store. Even far from home, she carried Jamaica in her heart – her warmth, her work ethic, her faith.
She later migrated to the United States, settling in Cambria Heights, Queens, New York. There she worked at the prestigious advertising agency Young and Rubican. Eventually, she moved to South Florida, where she became a home health aide, caring tenderly for the elderly until her retirement. Caring for others was not just a job for Daisy – it was who she was.
In the 1990s, she became a faithful member of Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church. Her faith was not something she spoke about loudly – she lived it. She served on the Altar Guild, volunteered in the thrift shop as a greeter, and supported causes such as Education Cannot Wait, a global fund dedicated to children’s education in emergencies. She believed deeply in helping others and in living a life that reflected God’s love.
Daisy will always be remembered for her quiet disposition, her sincerity, and her gentle smile. She was pleasant, understanding, and a true friend. She had a way of making others feel comfortable and cared for without ever seeking attention for herself.
Life was not without challenges. She faced circumstances that might have weakened many, but she met them with prayer and unwavering faith. Raised in a Christian home, she held firmly to what she was taught. Her faith in God made her strong – and she remained independent, steadfast, and dignified throughout her life.
Above all, she loved her family deeply. She prayed constantly that all would be well with them. Her love was steady. Faithful. Unconditional.
Today we do not say goodbye to a life that has ended. We honor a life that continues – in the values she instilled, in the faith she modeled, in the kindness she showed, and in the love she gave so freely.
By all who knew her and truly loved her, she will be deeply missed. But we are better because she lived.
May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.
