

Dorothy Rose Ascherman, beloved wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother passed away on May 19, 2017 at the age of 83. Born and raised in Ashland, Ohio, she attended Temple University in Philadelphia before marrying Herbert Stanley Ascherman and relocating to Erie, Pennsylvania, where she raised her three children—Arik, Jeffrey, and Dana Ascherman. While living in Erie, she obtained her Masters in Social Work degree and served as a mental health counselor for more than 10 years. She was actively engaged in a number of community service organizations that included United Way and National Council of Jewish Women. She subsequently moved to Washington, DC, where she lived for 25 years and continued to be involved in community service through International United Way and WIZO. She also chaired the Montgomery County Social Services Committee. She ultimately relocated to Florida in 2008, developing a close network of friends and family. She will forever be remembered for her wisdom, deeply held principles, generosity, devotion to family, lovingkindness, and commitment to the wellbeing of those around her. She is survived by her 3 sons, 3 stepchildren, one niece, one nephew, and many grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at Star of David Memorial Garden Cemetery on Monday, May 22nd at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County.
