Thanks to a website for our wonderful Teaneck High School Class of 69, I became close friends with Jeff. We went to the same school but never met there. Decades later, I had the clear sense that Jeff was understanding, wise, humorous, and compassionate. I no longer recall if our emails began as medical ones but I live in N. Virginia and had surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, FL. Jeff came to visit and after several days, asked why I was still in the hospital. He was right as usual. I asked my surgeon and was sprung from the (great) place that day. Jeff looked at the bright side and his practicality and optimism had a major, reassuring effect. If I had a question about computers, health, Israel's history, and a host of other subjects, I'd ask Jeff and always get a prompt reply. We shared a love of history (George Washington and Ben Franklin were high on his list) and seeing the zany side of life.  One afternoon in Florida, he tried to teach me golf. We gave up and I spent the afternoon watching this Yankee fan hit the most amazing golf shots I'd ever seen. In recent years, viewing  photos and videos of Jeff's family, especially his grandchildren, on Facebook brought me such joy and Jeff's pride was obvious. He adored his family and nothing and no one's protection meant more although he gave much time to friends. The day before Jeff passed, we texted about a medical procedure I was getting and, as usual, he checked on me. The week-end was a tearful  blur. Now, I'm counting on the strong love among his very close family to bring comfort  and peace to their lives. No one can replace him but he left us with the knowledge that caring for and respecting one another is the best way to lead one's life.  I'll always be grateful for his  guidance and friendship.

What can I say about my dear friend Jeff?  We grew up together in Teaneck, NJ and were pals from the time my family moved there from Manhattan in 1960. We went to elementary, junior high and high school together. We almost went to college together, too. Jeff got in to Temple University in Philadelphia and encouraged me to apply. So I did, got in, and then he put the pressure on :).   If I hadn't been so stubborn about studying in Washington, D.C. (American University), maybe we would have been fellow Owls! Jeff was a special guy.  He was funny, liked to tell a good story (could be a bit risque), and LOVED baseball.  Our mutual love affair with the New York Yankees lasted our lifetime.  Just three days ago I texted him about the Yanks getting Andrew McCutcheon and he sent back a big thumbs up.   We had two great experiences at Yankee Stadium, one believe it or not involving Mickey Mantle, and the other when we attended Game 6 of the 1981 World Series, Yanks/Dodgers. I have posted about the latter and will share the Mickey story on the Teaneck High School Class of '69 FB page. Most of all, Jeff was a family man.  His parents were wonderful people and they raised him and his brother Irv well.  Jeff and Diane were married for more than 40 years, raised two great kids in Rick and Allison. And then the grandchildren! Oy, did he love those kids.  Always posting pictures on FB, and a lot of family photos, too.  I cried non-stop for an hour yesterday and have sobbed intermittently since. It is so hard to lose any friend or family member, yes. But Jeff was so dear and special to me. In some ways he was my backbone when we were young. I shall miss him dearly. Oh, one other thing: the hole-in-one. My buddy spent a lifetime trying to make one.  A few months ago he came thisclose...then a few weeks later BINGO!!  He was so proud of that shot, posted pictures on FB, and I called him Arnie (as in Palmer.)  I was so proud of him. Always will be.

Jeff was  a friend ,  neighbor and golfing buddy of 16 years.  His  companionship, support and willingness to help will be missed and always be remembered.  I will always think of the days we used each other the justify a break in our yard work to sit in the grass and share stories of families, work and golf game.  You could not asked more from a friend and as I write this tears come to my eyes thinking of how much he will be missed.  Love you and miss you Dr. Jeff!

I have only known Jeff for a short while playing golf with him once or twice a week. I found him to be a terrific individual sharing stories with him and having many laughs. I am truly saddened by what has taken place.
