Dr. Michael Rodger Loss, 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in Plantation, Florida. He was born June 26, 1942 to Nathan Loss and Florence Steinreich in Newark, New Jersey. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He graduated from Rutgers College of Medicine with a Doctorate in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He is preceded by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Sherri Loss; daughters, Francesca Loss and Nancy; son, Greg; stepchildren, Jennifer Kersting (Matthew), Tiffany Aubrey (Matthew), Michael Jackson, Jaime Thwaytes (Spencer) and Steele Jackson (Kelsey); sister, Judy Panos; nephew, Brian Edelman (Kathy); nieces, Debra Schatzki (Nicholas) and Robin Albanese (Michael); numerous grandchildren who adored him.
Michael was a father, surgeon, husband, one of a kind, eccentric, kind, generous, and had a happy contagious demeanor.
We called him the miracle man as he defied all odds and walked out of hospice 10 years ago. He has lived with a heart function of someone who should have been dead, but he loved with a heart more full than ever for those 10 bonus years.
His hobbies were critical thinking, memorizing poems, dirty jokes, patenting websites, a thirst for learning, feeding pigeons at the beach, feeds ants outside of Eddie’s shop, community, his children, riding the stationary bike (which saved his life the first time), hypothesizing how to become millionaire, birthing babies and smiling.
He told us “if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life” and he loved what he did. He worked until the day before he died.
He recently said “ya know kid, sometimes you get lucky…and sometimes you die.”
Maybe sometimes its both. Michael hit the jackpot and died quickly and without pain. He is leaving behind a legacy of people who are better for having known him.
When he was brought back to life (2 times) ten years ago, he had an out of body experience and floated above his body while the medical team resuscitated him. He said he felt total peace and after seeing what it was like, no one would ever be afraid of death. He was at peace with death and so full of life. We will all miss Michael dearly but we are grateful to know he is definitely at peace and we will carry on his joy and be comforted by his loving spirit.
A memorial service for Dr. Michael will be held Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 11:45 AM at Star of David Funeral Chapel, 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068.
