I lost my cousin Delly yesterday to that dreaded covid-19 virus. Granted, she had some underlying medical issues, but it was way too soon! Delly was my first cousin, and I do mean FIRST cousin. She was born exactly six months after me and we literally grew up together.
I, being an only child, had an almost brother-sister relationship with Delly while growing up. I was included in her family vacations to Lake Michigan regularly. Her dad, Uncle Benny, took us ice skating on Belle Isle in the winter, and those Sunday rides to Sandy Beach every summer were special because I had Delly nearby. Her mom, Aunt Lil, definitely was my second mother. Uncle Benny would take me to work with him in his Sealtest Milk truck and let me put the bottles of milk in the customers milkchutes.
Then, as young teenagers, there was Delly always trying to “fix’ me up with one of her girlfriends. (No comment on this one)
As we grew older, we drifted apart, as often happens. But the times that we did spend together we so happy and fun and special. She always wanted to know about my family and how each one was getting along.
Just within the last few days I was thinking about Delly, and how was she dealing with her health issues? Then the news came and hit me like a ton of damn bricks.
Heartfelt condolences to Josh and his family, Sandy, Marv, David Rochelle, and all the nephews, and niece.
I will miss Cousin Delly a lot.

Deli and I were friends throughout high school and she was always sincere and fun to be with. Saw her a few times since, last when she was in Detroit a few years ago. Sad to see her go. Condolences to the family.
