Dr. Fritz Edgar Froehlich

Dr. Fritz Edgar Froehlich was born November 12, 1925 in Worms, Germany. Died January 8, 2019. Married 69 years to Eileen (Karch) Froehich. Predeceased by parents Ida and Julius Froehlich, son Laurence Froehlich, Esq., brother Walter Froehlich. Survived by daughter Georgine (Joel) Scharff, son Philip (Frances) Froehlich, grandchildren Ilana (Matthew) Lipman, Jason (Jaime) Froehlich, Joshua (Jenna) Scharff, Robin Froehlich, Stephen Froehlich, Justin Binder, Michael Froehlich, and seven great grandchildren. Dr. Froehlich formerly lived in Syracuse, NY and Tinton Falls, NJ. He was a brilliant scientist leading the development of the first commercial modem and mag stripe card reader. He was a scientist and department head at Bell Labs, established the graduate Telecommunications program at University of Pittsburgh and was professor emeritus there, and edited the 18 volume Encyclopedia of Telecommunications.
