1935 - 2019
George Barrington Adams (affectionately called “Barry”, or “Kakes” was born on April 28th, 1935, in Kingston, Jamaica to Fitzgerald and Violet Adams. He attended Kingston Technical High School.
In 1958, George Immigrated to the USA, where he continued his education at Westchester Community College in White Plains, New York, where he earned an Associates Degree in Architecture and Drafting.
George was employed at Papadatos and Associates Architectural Firm in NYC, from 1960-1992. There some of his greatest work and talents where performed. He and the firm partook in the creation of NYC’s famous Twin Towers buildings, which housed the famous World Trade Center. While employed with firm, Barry received prestigious awards and his work was published in several architectural magazines. In 1993, George took his talents to Toney Baker & Associates Architectural firm where he was Production Manager until he retired in 2004.
George was a passionate man who enjoyed life. He took pleasure in Sports (where he excelled in the game cricket), Music (where he was a connoisseur of Classical Jazz), and Horse Racing.
In 1961, George met the love of his life, Norma Joyce Poyser, at a dance hall in Harlem, NY called “ Audi bon Ballroom”. The couple dated and later wedded on May 6, 1961. George was extremely loving and proud of his family and his accomplishments. His inspiring presence allowed others to look at him as a mentor and a counselor. He devoted his life and services to benefit family and friends. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
George is survived by his wife Norma (aka Joyce) of 57 years, Children: Anthony, Michael and his wife Anjanette, Robin and Tanya.
Grandchildren: Ayesha and her husband Kerith, Marquise, Maci, Tyler, Conrad and Semara.
Great Grandchildren: Keiron, Abel and Kyrie.
Siblings: His brother Newton and his wife Kay and George's sister Dorothy(aka Babes) who passed away last January and whom many of you knew.
George is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and close friends.
