April 9, 1939 – October 27, 2026
George Joseph Solomon, affectionately known to so many as “Bagels,” passed away on October 27, 2026, at the age of 87, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, lessons, laughter, and memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
George was, without question, a bigger-than-life kind of man. He had a tremendous work ethic and spent much of his life working as a bagel baker, cab driver, and service professional. He believed in working hard, standing by your word, and doing things the right way. He was an honorable man who took pride in his work and in the life he built.
Although George would probably have denied being a people person, the truth was that he had a way of connecting with people all his own. When he liked you, you knew it. And if you were lucky enough to be one of his people, you knew you had someone in your corner for life.
George also fancied himself a bit of a philosopher, always ready to share a life lesson, offer his perspective, or impart a little wisdom to those around him. Whether you asked for it or not, there was usually a lesson to be learned from Bagels.
And then, of course, there was his language. If profanity offended you, chances are you probably weren’t his friend—or at least you hadn’t gotten to know the real George yet. He could drop an unexpected F- bomb as casually as someone might say hello. It was part of his charm, part of his humor, and, in his own unmistakable way, part of his love language. You always knew where you stood with George, and you were rarely left wondering what was on his mind.
Above all, George was a man who lived life on his own terms. He was unapologetically himself, full of character, strong opinions, hard-earned wisdom, and a personality that could never be mistaken for anyone else’s. He leaves behind not only the people who loved him, but also countless memories and stories that will undoubtedly be retold for years to come—perhaps with a few of his favorite words thrown in for good measure.
George shared 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Rita, building a life together filled with the experiences and memories that come with a lifetime of partnership. They were a true love story.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen, whose memory remains forever a part of the family.
He leaves behind his wife, Rita; his daughter, Cindy, whom he lovingly referred to as his “clone” or “him in drag”—a testament to just how much of himself he saw in her; his brother, Bruce; his sister, Nancy, brother-in-law, Marvin, and his nephews, Jason, Bret, Jordan, Dominic, Mark, and David, Seth and Tommy. Nieces, Sarah, Allie, Dina, Laura, Carolyn, Ann and Morgan.
George’s presence was larger than life, and a man like Bagels is not easily forgotten. His work ethic, his honesty, his colorful language, his philosophical musings, and his unmistakable personality made him who he was. Those who knew him will carry his lessons, his laughter, and his stories with them always.
He may have had a few choice words for the world, but those who loved him knew the heart behind them.
Rest easy, Bagels. You were one of a kind, and there will never be another quite like you.
