Born February 14, 1934, to Flora and Benjamin Tabakin, he lived his young life in Brooklyn, NY with his two brothers Sol and Robbie; loving sister-in-law Nettie; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends nearby.
Gil is survived by his daughters, Ruth Barbara and Robin Felice and her husband Virgil and “his world,” his grandsons Justin Brett and Eric Parker, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gil was predeceased by the love of his life Toby. After meeting at the Nevele Hotel in the Catskills, they soon after married for 43 wonderful and amazing years.
Gil always craved working, including his many years as Head of Messengers for Manufacturers Hanover Bank at 40 Wall Street.
Gil loved to be around people and involved in his communities, including volunteering his time, especially with children. He was most proud of being a Korean War Veteran as well as a member of the Knights of Pythias. Upon his retirement, he became involved in many clubs and associations.
Gil was a huge New York sports fan, going back to the Brooklyn Dodgers and going to Ebbets Field with his buddies. Gil and Toby shared a common passion for the New York Rangers. He also enjoyed attending and watching the New York Yankees with his family. Gil enjoyed bowling with his longtime friends Ozzie & Harriet and Ely & Ira. He shared the common loves of creating art and photography, like his brother Sol.
Above all, he taught us that family is the most important part of life!
