It's Breanna, Claudia's daughter. You were such an impact in my life and I wish you were here to see how you've changed my life for the better. I'm applying to medical school now with hopes of following in your footsteps. I'll make sure that I become the best physician I can be and hope that it's half the physician you were. I owe my love of medicine to you. You were such a kind person and sadly, Ozzi passed away too but both of your memories stand strong in my mind. Some wonderful sentiments are written here and I can also say how often I think fondly of Larry and speak about him to my wife and two sons.  We were childhood and teenaged friends and were very close. Songs come on the radio that remind me of Larry and the fun we had together. I was kind of looking forward to seeing Larry more in our later years, but that is not to be.

Dr. Katzell, one year has gone by since you left this earth, so close to Ruby Cumberland's birthday. She joined you and her husband in heaven back in February 2014. She went peacefully in her sleep, yet I imagine you on the other side of her light saying, "Come on Ruby, what are you waiting for???" A chapter in our families' life is closed, we all move forward taking with us the wisdom you gave to us and to our loved one who entrusted you with their care. You were strong, honest and full of energy and oh, so very New York, as you said! Rest in Peace and give Ruby our love. Today marks the one year anniversary of your death. I miss you very much Dr. Katzell, Wade and I talk about you , remembering all the good times and all the laughs I had while working for you. It was always fun and I always enjoy coming to work. You did not treat us like your employees but as if we were part of your family.  Even after I left to go work at the Wilton Manors office we always kept in touch. You even came to visit me over there one time, I remember the girls in the office couldn't believe!
You always worried about me when I went through some difficult times,
always tried to help. I remember sometimes being on the phone with Nilsa and you would take the phone and say something crazy, funny ...
always making me laugh. 
You are greatly missed Dr Katzell, and I will never forget you.

Today is one day before the first anniversary of Larry's death.  I just read thru all the guest book entries with both smiles and tears.

Larry was my brother in law, doctor and friend.  Larry loved my sister, Carol, and my niece, Lauren, unconditionally.  He loved his siblings, Tina, Jeffrey & Bruce as well as our extended families.

Larry phoned family members daily.  It was usually a stream of consciousness, but always included news of Lauren's latest accomplishments.  He was so very proud of her.

Larry could be loud and obnoxious, but that was just Larry and everyone loved him anyway.

Larry liked saying I was " big and strong" as well as "a good eater".  He enjoyed treating everyone to dinner.  This is just one example of his generosity.

I am writing from Bali, taking a year off to travel with my husband,  enjoy life and figure out what God has in store for me next.

Because of you, Larry, I will tell my husband I love him, I will see all the beauty in life, smell the flowers and enjoy the wide variety of flavors.  Russ and I will spend too much on a lovely dinner and make a special toast to you.

I just read of Larry's death in the Syracuse alumni magazine. I knew him since he was a puny freshman at SU.  A group of us became close friends and later roommates.  I last saw Larry when he came to Southern Cal for a visit in 1976 while he was in med school.  I knew he'd gone somewhere in Florida but didn't know where.  I feel especially bad now because my mother lives in Pembroke Pines and I visit her 1-2X a year--should have made the effort to look him up.  The funniest guy I ever knew.  I knew he'd become a great doctor.

I was shocked and saddened to accidentally discover the passing of Larry. My heart goes out to Bruce, Tina, and Jeff, and of course, Carol and Lauren. May he rest in peace, once again in the loving arms of Bernice and Ray.

We are very saddened to know of Dr Katzells passing last fall. To the family please accept this message as heartfelt - He was dear to us and dear to many - he will live in our hearts and mind-

My condolences to the Katzell family.  My sister and I have been taking my elderly father Pedro to see Dr. Katzell for over 15yrs.  I have nothing but nice things to say about him. He was a wonderful man.  We greatly appreciate all he did for my father as he always made him smile.  We will miss his humor and his great staff who also treated us so kindly.

Dr. Katzell was the best Doctor I ever had. I am so sorry to find out he passed away. I will miss him dearly and it will be very hard to replace him as my Doctor.

Larry and I were very, very close as children, teenagers and young men growing up on Long Island. While his passing is untimely and difficult to fathom, his life will be remembered forever.  Larry was quick witted and funny and unforgettable.  He also had a big heart.  
I spoke with Larry just a few days ago when we discussed the death of another close friend from our childhood.  At that time, Larry told me he attends high holy day services and really enjoyed his time at the synagogue during these holidays.  He said it was relaxing.  I bet that is some kind of sign that he is doing ok now, resting in peace.

Larry Katzell has been my Dr and dear Friend since 1989 and I can't believe that he is gone. Since I received my letter I have been in shock and trying to believe that it is really true. What a wonderful person he was. We had such great conversations including our daughters, fishing,& Cars,(we each had a Challanger ). Larry was an important person in my life, I could talk to him about anything, and there is no one to replace him. I was in Broward today so I stopped by the office. Claudia explained to me what happened on that Sunday. She told me the plans about the Family keeping the Office opened. I will Pray for the Family and I know Larry is in a better place . I plan to have a 4:30 Mass said for him at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Lighthouse Point.

I had the privilege of taking care of many patients with Dr. Katzell. I am shocked and devastated about the news of his passing. My heart goes out to his wife and family who have to be feeling very alone during this dark time. I hope they can take comfort in knowing that Dr. Katzell touched the lives of many people. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Dr. Katzell was my mom's doctor, then mine. I considered him much more than just a doctor. He would ask about my life, I would tell him more than he wanted to know(or so I thought). And the next time I came in he would ask me about my life again and he remembered our previous time together. He was funny, caring and so much more. I was all ready to call him Dr. Challenger and then he goes out and buys a Corvette, so I will miss you, Dr. Corvette. My love and prayers go out to his family and friends.

My wife and I met Dr. Larry 18 years ago when we moved to Fort Lauderdale from the Boston area. I had suffered a very serous injury and the sun and good weather were a good prescription for my recovery. I could not believe my good fortune to have found such a superb physician, a caring doctor, a great friend and a source of unending stories. He always talked with love and admiration about his family; and was always concerned about ours.
I consider it an honor to have known him. He personifies the definition of a physician.
His staff was great and always praised his competence. He always brought a smile to everyone's face.

I was in complete shock when I heard the news, my heart broke and I was at loss for words. When I moved to S Fl and started workin at HCH, we immediately bonded in the ER on his rounds. He became by dr and has been for the last 10 years. He could just look at his patients and know what was wrong, he saved me from developing thyroid cancer at age 23 when he noticed something different. I just moved back to NC but my heart is with great sadness that this happened to such a wonderful man. I pray for his family, we are all thinking of you.  RIP Katzell, you are already missed by so many!!!

Its With sad heart felt sorrow when we received the letter of Dr Katzells passing. Susan and I were taken in to his great caring staff when our Doctor moved . He was one of a kind and always asked about me retiring and where. I said God's country and he asked  where. I said Idaho. Dr Katzell where ever you are is God's country .

It was so shocking to hear of his death. He was such a wonderful doctor, and such a wonderful person, with so much compassion. I will miss him, and say prayers for him, and his family, in this time of sorrow.

The doc will missed alot, after a long time searching we finally found a Dr. who cared about us. Not in a hurry, but took time with you, and cared for you, we will miss the whole office. Heaven is a much better place now. Thank you  Roger and Shirley Browne.

My wife and I have been with Dr Katzell for more than 20 years. When we were told of his passing, we were shocked and saddened. He Always listened and talked with us. He was loved by us and will be missed.

It was a shock to receive the notice of Dr.Katzell's sudden passing. He always ask about my son and what vacation I was planning. How did he always remember such details? He knew what a worry-wort I was at 70+ yrs. and gave me a hug before I left. He truly helped mend both body and soul. It was a shock to hear about My Beloved Dr. passing away.  Dr. Katzell once said to me, he would have liked to have done something great as a Dr., he did!! Our hearts are so full of sadness at this shocking news. We've been out of town and received a call from a friend to tell us that Larry had left us so suddenly. He has been our doctor for 20+ years & when my parents moved here, he became their doctor & stayed by our side through both their passing. My mom hated doctors until Dr. Katzell. He always made her laugh. He always smiled & joked around. As soon as my husband or I walked in, he asked how our son Connor was & he remembered everything you told him. How did he do that? Because he always talked about Lauren & Carol. He was such a happy, passionate, quirky, wonderful & talented doctor & friend. We will never, ever be able to replace him in our lives. I can not tell you how devastated I and my friends are at the sudden passing of our beloved Dr. Katzell.  I had a wonderful relationship with him.  He was humorous, friendly, and a great doctor. Dr. Katzell has been our primary care physician for over ten years and treated my husband's parents as well. We moved, but have been driving from Lake Worth to Fort Lauderdale because we wanted to stay in his care. Dr. Katzell made friends of his patients, cheered us up, and made us feel better. He was the one you could always rely on to know how to help or what to prescribe. He really was a unique and caring person and this is a huge loss to us. I am so sad today, to hear about my dear Doctor's passing. The minute he walked into the room to see me, he would say Hi and How are you and How is the family.  He was a kind and caring Doctor, I was very lucky to have touched his life, and he took such good care of me. Just a little over a year ago, I met Dr. Larry Katzell while he was filling in for my regular doctor. In our first meeting, he spent over 30 minutes with me talking mostly about our only daughters of the same age. A long time talking considering the busy office. The following day, he personally called me and told me to come to his office immediately. To make a long story short, he walked me across the street to the emergency room and had me admitted. He stayed with me for hours despite an office full of patients. For the next few days he checked on me constantly. I've never seen such a compassionate, dedicated doctor. I think it is rare today when a doctor takes so much time to care for their patients. Larry was an extraordinary doctor, a rare jewel in today's busy World.  He will be greatly missed. My prayers and condolences to his family, friends and patients.

Fifteen years ago when I was feeling under the weather,my boss at the Holy Cross Medical Group Dean Jones said she was going to make an appointment for me to see her Dr.which turned out to be Dr. Katzell. She stated "He is the best." Dean (God bless her soul) made the appointment. I went and continued to see Dr. Katzell and I am forever grateful.My last visit was this past Friday. Dr Katzell was kind, compassionate and had a great sense of humor.Dr. Katzell, his family and wonderful staff (Nilsa, Claudia and Molly) are in my thoughts and prayers.

     I'm going to miss you.  Speaking as an RN, you were my favorite doctor to see because your presence always brought smiles to the 5th floor Holy Cross nurse's station. 
     Speaking as your patient, you were an excellent, caring, and attentive primary care doctor.  You saw me during the holidays twice, and you always returned my late night sick calls.  Thank you again.

What a shock it was for us to learn today of Dr Katzells  passing this past weekend. We are so sorry and found out after his funeral services today. Several of our staff have been patients and we too have been under his care for many years. He was a dependable doctor and very approachable.  We will have a difficult time searching to find another primary care physician who was so vibrant and caring. Dr. Kat was the finest doctor I have ever known.  I was a patient of his for almost 30 years, and even tho I have always been relatively healthy, he was my main doc, the one I always checked in with first when an issue would come up.  His personna, his spirit, his personality, his knowledge will never be surpassed in my book.  I was going to him before his wife and daughter came along......and he adored them both.  Such an exceptional human being, I am really really sad about this news.    My heartfelt prayers and sympathies go out to his family.....I am so so sorry for your loss. I am filled with saddness to hear about Dr. Katzell's passing. It was an honor to know this man, full of spirit and compassion. He was a wonderful physician to our Aunt. To Dr.Katzell's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. Katzell was always there for me. I always looked forward to seeing him. I will never forget all you did for me.

I am so sad today.  Dr. Katzell was an excellent physician and a caring and compassionate person.  He always had a smile on his face and always brought a smile to someone else.  We always talked about our dogs.  Holy Cross will never be the same.  He will be missed dearly.  My thoughts and prayers will be with his Carol and Lauren.

You will always live in our hearts and prayers.

Both my partner Leo and myself are deeply moved to hear this sad news . We were patients of Dr. Katzel and we truely liked him very much , as I am sure all of his patients did. A fine man and an honest caring doctor . R.I.P
