I first met Linda when I was 10 years old and moved in across the street from her in Brooklyn.   Although she was one year older, we became fast friends and our friendship lasted for almost 70 years.  When we were in our early teens one summer, we became entrepreneurs by starting a day camp for pre-schoolers who lived on our street.  We spread blankets on the pavement in the alley and played games with the kids.  By the end of that summer we had made enough money to buy identical sweatshirts (a fitting close to the hot weather).

During our high school years, we would get together after school to watch American Bandstand and learn the Philadelphia-style of doing the Lindy.  Linda was a good dancer and I had two left feet, but we practiced together till we mastered that dance style. 

In February 1962, Linda went to a dance at a Jewish Center and met Stan and his friend, Joe.  She told me that if her date with Stan the following Saturday night works out, she will get me a date with Stan’s friend after that.  That’s how I met my husband Joe.  The four of us had many double dates after that, including going to the boys’ college prom.  Linda was Maid of Honor and Stan was a Groomsman at our wedding.

Once we were both married, Joe and I visited Stan and Linda wherever they moved to, including Baltimore (both before and after Jeff was born), NJ (where they convinced us to move there also), North Carolina (driving 10 hours in each direction just for a weekend stay), and then FL.  Some of our fondest memories were of pool parties at our house in NJ where all 6 of our kids got to interact (a euphemism for water fights). 

While Linda was living in the Atrium memory care unit, I visited her several times.  She was always glad to see me even if she could no longer have a coherent conversation.  This past Thanksgiving, Joe and I saw Linda at Denise and Mark’s house and she was in good spirits, enjoying the family and friends who came.
