2016 at UW Hospital in Madison, WI. Madeline was born in Madison on December 26, 1919.
Her family lived in the Greenbush neighborhood. She attended Longfellow Grade School and
Central High School graduating in 1937, the only class without a graduation photo because the
bleachers collapsed. She worked at Emporium Department store and Madison Kipp. She
enlisted in the army (WAC) from July 1944-February 1946.
On January 17, 1946 she married Milton Goodman, who she met while he was on military leave
in Madison. They moved to Brooklyn, NY later that year where her husband was born and lived
in the quonset huts in Carnarsie. Their first son Alan was born there and a few years later they
bought their first home in Elmont, NY where Marla and Monte were born. Moving again in 1955
to Bethpage, NY where David was born.
She and her husband retired to Florida (Coconut Creek in 1984 and Boynton Beach in 1994)
where they started golfing, traveling and enjoying the warm weather. They loved seeing their
children and grandchildren. They visited Madison in the summer to see their daughter and sonin-
law and other relatives. She enjoyed playing different variations of solitaire, playing
Rummikub, Michigan rummy & word search puzzles and teaching all to play. After her husband
died in 2001 she spent summers with her daughter in Madison. Then last June she moved here
permanently with Marla & Randy.
She is survived by her children, Alan (Ellen) Goodman of St.Marys, GA, Marla Robinson (Randy
Beard) of Fitchburg, WI, Monte (Sharon) Goodman of Coram, NY, David Goodman (Sheila
Feldman) of Davie, FL and grandchildren, Craig (Colleen), Allison, Jason, Ashley, Madison,
Stone & Jake and great grandsons, Darien & Alexander and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Milton, her parents, Max & Rose
Shapiro, sisters, Beatrice (Meyer) Sweet, Sandra (Marvin) Kelinson, brothers Jerry (Esther) &
Sherman (Adeline) Shapiro, son-in-law, James Robinson.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, American Cancer
Society or charity of your choice. Her life came full circle from where she was born back to
where she passed. She will be laid to rest at Star of David Memorial Gardens in N. Lauderdale,
FL on Tuesday June 14,2016 at 10:30 am to be with her husband again after 15 years apart.
Special thanks to Marty & Sylvia & Marge of FL and Bette & Jim & Judy of Fitchburg for your
help with mom and also to Randy because I (Marla) could not have done this alone. Time to
reunite with your entire family, cousins and friends.
