July 23, 1930 – July 29, 2020
Melvin H. Grossberg (z"l) passed away at the age of 90. Consistent with his uncanny ability to coin one-liners, when asked about his middle initial, he would say, “The ‘H’ stands for handsome.” He leaves behind his wife, Lois, his children, Bruce, Steven (Martha), Jennie (Lior) along with his grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew and Elie. Sadly, in 2011, he lost his daughter Julie (z"l).
He was Born in Rochester, New York and grew up in North Bergen, New Jersey. He commenced his college studies at New York University when he was called to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree from Farleigh Dickinson University. Mel married Lois Lubinsky in 1955, and they resided in and raised their family in New Jersey.
Mel began his career as an accountant and through talent, persistence and hard work, he spent most of his working years as an executive in the vending industry, serving as Vice President of Canteen Corporation, and CEO and President of its subsidiary, the Rowe Corporation.
After his retirement and many years as a snowbird, Mel moved to Boynton Beach, Florida, and enjoyed playing tennis and racquetball.
He loved exploring the local cuisine. As he would often say, “If you live here long enough you get to know all the hazarai joints in Palm Beach County.” Indeed, Mel delightfully accomplished that. Though, his all-time New Jersey favorites included White Castle and Rutt’s Hutt.
Mel enjoyed traveling, reading and shopping for bargains – particularly at Dillard’s when he would buy shorts at 82.5% off and the clearance section at Target. With each conquest he would smile and say, “Teach your dollars to have more cents.”
Mel especially loved spending time with his beloved family.
