Melvin is my father's brother, both sons of Max Smith (Mortche Kuperschmidt) and Lena Gron, both from Meretz, Lithuania (was part of Russia when they lived there).  Melvin was a sweet man and both he and Beverly dedicated their lives to support their daughter Joanie.  Melvin was a devoted brother and called by father Selig Smith every day, before his death in 2010, during the last few years.
I had several relatively recent conversations with Melvin regarding health issues, family, and his tour as a Medic, in the Army in New Guinea, during WWII. I never heard him utter a harsh word.I will miss him a great deal and offer my condolences to his family.
