Where do you even begin to talk about someone you've been friends with for nearly 60 years? Pete's done a lot of things in his life and he was successful at all of them. He was a travel agent and Vice President of a bank among other things, but most of all... down deep he was always a radio guy. He had the most FUN when he was in radio. It started at WFUN, but there was WVUM, and of course Love-94, where Pete was really in his element.
In 1978 when Pete was running Love-94 Radio and living in South Miami, he called me one night to ask a favor. He had had a freak accident. He kicked a frog in his patio, lost his balance, fell  and broke his knee. It was a bad break and he was rushed to South Miami Hospital where he had to be admitted. 
  The favor? SIMPLE. Just go to his house and feed the dog! That wouldn't normally be a problem except the house was locked and Pete hadn't brought a key to the hospital. Not a problem, he said. Just go to the back door, a door that had jalousie windows (small little individual panes of glass), and break a single pane,  put my hand in and unlock the door.
Like burglers in the night, Bonnie and I followed his directions. We got in the house easily and were feeding the dog when we heard a very loud knocking at the front door.  I opened the door, only to be confronted by two South Miami policemen, guns pointed directly at Bonnie and me.  It seems a neighbor had heard the breaking glass and called police.
 I don't remember their exact words, but needless to say, having guns pointed at you is a frightening experience. I told the police we were there at the request of the homeowner... I quickly called the hospital and got Pete on the phone. He told police it was all very innocent and that we were helping him out by taking care of his dog.
We weren't arrested. But after that night Pete always knew that he could count on us for absolutely anything, except breaking and entering!
I love you, Pete... and I'm gonna miss you old friend!

Peter and I were cousins, close in age. My very fondest memories of him were when we were young and spent time together, particularly the wonderful summers we spent at the Manor Hotel – a summer special place owned by Peter‘s father in the Rockaways.   When Peter made his life in Florida and I remained in New York we did not see much of each other, but the bonds remained and were renewed about 20 years ago. Peter lead a
 life to be proud of, as a staunch supporter of our country and as a devoted family man. May he rest in peace.

I met Peter at Brooklyn Day Camp in the Rockaways   When we were 6 or so. When my family moved to Bayswater in the Rockaways and went to the school up the block ?well there was Peter!   In the past few years we reconnected by chance thru the love of Great Ocean Liners We spoke on the phone often and long in the past 6 or 7 years. We shared stories and our history. His loving wife was always giving her all to him as his health failed. Her devotion was the key to his long life. May his memory be for a Blessing.

Peter was an amazing grandfather. I will forever cherish the time we spent together. Rest in peace.

Dear Mrs. Berlin and family,

I was very saddened to learn of Peter's passing through the AFVN io group! He and I often communicated by email and phone after Rick Fredericksen's and my book "Hot Mics and TV Lights: The American Forces Vietnam Network" (in which, as you know, Peter had a chapter) was published. We discovered that we had several things in common. Among them were family backgrounds that emanated from New York City and the same religious faith. He quite often would Like my posts on LinkedIn regarding my articles and was always good about posting comments about them. May his memory be a blessing.

Very sorry to learn of Peter's passing. We served together in Vietnam, in the 221st Signal Company (Combat Photo).
