Phyllis Baron-Malkin, PSA (April 15, 1927 - June 9, 2012)
We are sorry to learn of the passing of Phyllis Baron Malkin, PSA, a founding member of the Pastel Society of America who served on the society's first Board of Governors. She made her home in Tamarac, FL and is survived by her daughter Robin Malkin Ford.
In 1972 Phyllis received an award in the first pastels only exhibition organized by Flora B. Giffuni at the Grand Gallery of the National Arts Club. Following the exhibition, Phyllis and her friend, fellow pastel artist Rhoda Yanow, were asked by Flora to join the first PSA Board of Governors. Board members volunteered to work one day a week to organize the society.
Phyllis received her formal education at the National Academy of Design School, New York where she was a student of John Grabach, N.A. and Henry Gasser, N.A.. She received awards from the Pastel Society of America, National Arts Club, National Academy of Design, Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and from numerous exhibitions in New Jersey, Florida and California. She is listed in Who's Who of American Women. During her career, galleries in New Jersey and Florida represented her. She is a former staff member of the South Florida Art Institute of Hollywood, Dania, FA.
