Rebecca Sarah Mackler was born on July 14th, 1964 in Flushing, Queens, NY. She past at the age of 60 peacefully on Sunday, August 11th, 2024 with her husband, Jon, and daughters, Gabrielle and Emily, at her bedside. She was the most loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Rebecca began her career out of college as a New York City school teacher in some of the most economically deprived neighborhoods and dangerous schools, but her calling was to help others in need. Rebecca sacrificed her career to become a stay at home mother to give her children the opportunities she never had.
She was married for 34 years to Jon, who she married to on their one year anniversary of dating on Mother’s Day as a gift to their mothers. Jon and Rebecca raised two beautiful daughters together. Most recently, Rebecca got to meet her first grandchild, Ellie Rose, who was born on July 15th, one day after Rebecca’s 60th birthday.
Rebecca passed only 74 days after experiencing minor memory fog to then learn she was diagnosed with Glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is a horrible brain cancer with limited treatment and sadly no cure. Even though Rebecca was always a fighter, this aggressive cancer continued to grow and took her too soon.
Most importantly, Rebecca was an extremely kind, selfless person who was willing to do anything for others. She was always a shoulder to cry on, was extremely caring and lit up any room with her infectious energy. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved spending time with her family and friends and spreading her positivity with those who she came in contact with. If she had one wish, Rebecca would ask of us all to be kind to others and take a moment to recognize those in need. She will be truly missed, but the love she shared will continue to live in our memories forever.
