Selma (Grossman) Levine, 95, of Lauderhill, formerly of Sunrise Lakes Phase IV, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2019. Born in Pittsburgh, PA to Peter and Fanny Grossman, she moved with her parents to Florida as a pre-teen. Selma enjoyed working in the hospitality industry in Miami Beach for more than 30 years. She met her first husband, Sonny Trachtenberg, on a cruise. They honeymooned in Havana and had 18 happy years together. After Sonny’s passing her love for travel led Selma to meet the love of her life, Lester Levine, on an American Jewish Congress tour of Europe. A recent widower, Lester found joy with Selma, and their life of retirement and travel together lasted for 36 years until his passing in 2017. Lester and Selma enjoyed their life and many friends at Sunrise Lakes. Selma was extremely close to Sonny’s son Roy Trachtenberg. While she had no biological children, her husbands’ children became her own. Sadly, Roy predeceased her suddenly last November. Selma is survived by Lester’s daughters, Joan (David) Gurski of West Hartford, CT and Barb (Dan) Landrigan of Wethersfield, CT, grandsons Matt and Kevin Landrigan, and Roy’s wife Sharon Rosenthal. She is also survived by Marie Allen, devoted caregiver and in many ways third daughter to her and Lester. Marie has provided loving care to Selma and to our dad for many years before he passed away and has truly become family. Heartfelt thanks to the Vitas Hospice team at Florida Medical; they are all wonderful and we appreciate the tender care they provided to Selma in her final weeks. Graveside service to be held Tuesday, March 19 at 10:30am at Star of David Memorial Gardens, North Lauderdale.
