I knew your father for a very long time.  As a fellow mayor,  we worked together on many issues. As neighboring cities, we helped each other out. As a legislator, he helped us in ways that few were ever aware of.  Just someone to know,  respect, and discuss with,  he was always open and caring.  He was a mensch. I miss him greatly as a friend and colleague.

Steven and I went to elementary school together, and we were very close friends. This picture, which is more than sixty years old, taken at the time of our graduation, shows Steven on the left, me in the middle, and our mutual friend Arty on the right. Steven and I recorded a 33 1/3 vinyl record, which included jokes and other things which seemed very funny to us at the time.

May the memory of Steven and all he accomplished be a source

I am very sad to learn of Steven's passing.  We had known each other since we were classmates at PS 152 in the 1950s and '60s, and we reconnected after I moved to Florida.  Steve's career was well under way by then, and I was proud to recognize his name on the signs during election campaigns.  He was a good friend, and I wish his life had been longer.


From the early 80’s to about eight years ago, Steve and I were very close. I met Steve and Meryl on our first cruise when my wife Annie and I moved to Florida. Meryl, Annie and Stevie and I (and later Adam) were inseparable from that time forward. We used to say we were attached at the hips where our wallets were located. Life is funny though …Meryl passed away, ultimately Steve got remarried and suddenly was pretty much out of our lives. Then I lost Annie and remarried as well. All that said, Steve Feren left behind a significant legacy…to the City of Sunrise and of course his son Adam Feren. He also left behind a huge hole in my heart as well.

I remember Steve as a little boy when I used to babysit him and his two brothers. He grew up to be an exceptional man and did a lot of wonderful things as he grew older. He will be missed.  He was my first cousin and I will miss him but he is in a happier place with his beloved Meryl and his brother, father and mother.

I was so sorry to hear about Judge Feren's death.  From my conversations with him I know he had an amazing life and was so proud of his family.   I was unaware that he had "roots" in the five towns where I grew up  until he told me the story of his father in law owning the "candy store" in my hometown. I know he was a professional poker player and I got to see his poker face during a difficult trial where I represented the mother in a request for relocation.  I had no clue where " he was going" until he announced his decision.   I wanted to tell his family how sorry I was about his passing.  

Met your Dad and Mom when he and I worked for Supreme Court Judges in the Bronx Courthouse.  We both moved to Florida.  You were born.  The first word my daughter Lindsay said was Adam.  God Bless.

Steven and his wife Meryl used to babysit for my brother and I. Steven proposed to Meryl at my house.  My condolences to his family. 

I got to know  Steve when we were mayors together (Sunrise and Boca Raton) and in fact served on his board when he was president of the Florida League of Mayors. Delightful to work with. I was always impressed that he had served in all three branches of government locally—executive, legislative and judicial—which is very unique—and served so effectively in each role. Condolences to the Feren family. Steve leaves quite a legacy.  

Steven was a mentor to all who knew him. He will be missed one of Broward County shining stars. Our condolences from the Grace Family.

Hello...My name is Linette Waters and I have known Steve since 1970 when my best friend Meryl started dating him and eventually married him.  He was a kind and decent man and always willing to help anyone in need.  My condolences to his family.

I'll miss Steve, I'll miss watching the Triple Crown races with him every year. I'll miss talking baseball and politics with him.
The last time I saw him was almost exactly seven years ago. We met in Vagas and went to the Golden Steer, Frank Sinatra's favorite restaurant to celebrate his centennial. It was a cool night. The picture  is us sitting at Frank's table, with the Rat Pack right behind us.
