Born and Raised in the Bronx, New York
Stuart Yule, a loving father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 3, 2025 at the age of 85. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Stuart lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family and his city.
After graduating from high school, Stuart joined the U.S. Army, where he studied mechanics and played on the Army football team. Following his honorable discharge, Stuart joined the New York City Police Department, graduating from the police academy and being assigned to the 16th Precinct in Manhattan, known as Midtown North. During his 20-year career in law enforcement, Stuart played ice hockey for the PBA and later became a referee. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management from CW Post on Long Island.
After retiring from the NYPD, Stuart transitioned into the NYC hotel industry, where he held various leadership positions, including Director of Safety and Loss Prevention. He began his career with Sheraton, then moved on to the Essex House, the Marriott Marquis, the Setai Hotel, and, finally, the Hilton Millennium.
During his tenure at the Hilton Millennium, located directly across from the World Trade Center, Stuart faced the unthinkable on September 11, 2001. The hotel was at full capacity when the towers were struck, and Stuart led his team in evacuating all guests to safety. He remained on the property after the attack, assisting FDNY and NYPD as a first responder when the towers collapsed. For his actions that day, he was later recognized with a citation from Hilton Companies. Stuart also volunteered at the 9/11 Museum, sharing his experience with visitors as a reminder of the heroism and resilience shown on that fateful day.
After learning that he had Parkinson’s Disease, Stuart retired from Hilton and focused on his health. Throughout his life, he was a true New Yorker who loved the Yankees, Rangers, and Giants. He cherished Sunday mornings, solving crossword puzzles from the New York Times and New York Post, and spending time with family, cooking his famous wings, chili, and potato pie. Stuart was also a fierce competitor at Scrabble, challenging his loved ones to games that always brought joy and laughter.
Stuart is survived by his daughter, Lisa-Ann Marchesi, and son-in-law, John Marchesi III; his son, William Yule; grandchildren, Dominick Marchica, Skyler Yule, and Zachary Yule; and great-grandson, Jameson “Jamo” Washo.
