Barb was a loving wife to her husband, Ken for 61 years. Together they built a beautiful home for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a devoted Christian above all else, who loved the Lord and served His people well. She was the secretary for First Baptist Church of Gravel Ridge for over 20 years. She was the keeper of all the information. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Director over the nursery, she helped the needy and often times led the charge of feeding sick or grieving families and putting potlucks together for her church family. Her potato salad was legendary and was always requested at these meals
She also worked at Elmcroft Senior Living as the activities director for several years connecting with residents and organizing events.
Among all who Barb was able to serve faithfully, her greatest joy was pouring into her family. Lovingly known as Nana, Barb was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed supporting her family at various events, concerts and ballgames. She was an exceptional host for family gatherings where everyone loved Nana’s cooking. Even as her health was declining, when a group would gather she would still ask if there was enough food for everyone. She leaves for her friends and family a strong lasting legacy of love and service.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Virgina Hirman, Michael Strange and Huey Strange. She is survived by her husband, Ken; daughter Shannon Sanders (Mike) of Sherwood, 2 sons Tracy Wood (Lindsey) of Waskom, Texas and Kirk Wood (Debra) of Emory, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Kody Sanders, Chase Sanders, Carson Sanders, Taylor Loyd, Kyle Wood, Lane Wood and Lindsey Wood along with 7 great grandkids.
