

Bobbye Lavon Holmes Hogue, 89, of North Little Rock passed away Monday, October 31st. She was born in Adams Chapel community near Chidester, AR to Bob and Lydia Holmes, she is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ester Louise and Norita Bearden; and her husband of 49 years, William “Bill” Hogue.
She is survived by her three daughters, Rita Hogue, Brenda Hogue and Glenda Hogue; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family moved frequently for employment and Bobbye “Lavon” attended several schools. She graduated from Magnolia High School in 1945. After graduation she moved to Camden, AR to work at the Naval Ordinance Plant making parts for bombers until November 1945, when the war came to an end. She went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. where she met and married Bill in 1947 then moved to Little Rock and worked for Southwestern Bell until 1954. While there she helped organize the first softball team and served as the star pitcher until she left the company. Bobbye gave birth to Rita in 1954 and then in 1957 she gave birth to twin girls, Brenda and Glenda. After the girls were in school, Bobbye went to nursing school, working at UAMS as a labor & delivery nurse and later on as a OB nurse in the outpatient clinic. She later became charge nurse in the Research Infertility Clinic and worked in that area until 1980. She later worked with some of the staff with cancer patients and other specialties. She retired from nursing at UAMS in 1992 after 29 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rose City for over 60 years where she taught preschool to 6 year olds for several years. She was also active in the kitchen team at church and was the organizer of the food pantry from 2000 until 2006 when she became unable to carry on the work.
