Doris was born in Enola, Arkansas, on January 9, 1932, as the youngest of the three daughters of Davis and Eula Mae Keeling. The Keelings lived in Barney, Arkansas, where the girls grew up.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Basil Hendrixson; her parents, Davis and Eula Mae Keeling; and a sister, Evaleen Hall.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Deborah Germany, of Maumelle; her grandson, Colin Germany and his wife Camille of Norman, Oklahoma; her sister, Bonnie Stubbs of Benton, Arkansas; her nephew, Jim Stubbs, and his wife, Brenda, and her grandniece, Jeannie Stubbs, all of Kingwood, Texas.
Doris graduated from Enola High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Arkansas State Teachers College, now the University of Central Arkansas. She met her future husband, Basil Hendrixson, in college, and they were married shortly after graduation. They were married 62 years at the time of his passing in 2014.
Doris taught in elementary school, primarily fifth grade, while she and Basil lived in Little Rock, and he attended the University of Arkansas College of Medicine to earn his medical degree. Upon Basil’s graduation from medical school in 1963, they moved to McCrory, Arkansas, where he practiced family medicine, and she managed the medical clinic. Upon retirement, they moved to Maumelle to be closer to their daughter and young grandson.
Doris loved flowers and especially loved long drives to see spring flowers and fall leaves. She and Basil traveled many places in the United States; their favorites were the Rocky and Great Smoky mountains.
A special thanks goes to the staff at Stonehaven and Doris’s hospice nurse LaKendra Watson for their loving care of her.
A graveside service will be held Monday, April 12, 10: 00 a.m., at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills in North Little Rock. The service will be conducted by Pastor Brent Higdem.
