He was born on February 21, 1929 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Nettie (Jackson) Mullens and
Lewis Edward Mullens. He graduated from Little Rock Tech High School in 1947, and was employed by Arkansas Power & Light Company/Entergy as a lineman, and later as a troubleshooter, for a total of 40 years before retiring in 1991.
He was an avid outdoorsman excelling in archery, hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was passing on his love of the outdoors to all of the children in the family. He also loved running and ran for many years. At the age of 50, he completed the White Rock Marathon in 3:26 after running for only one year. When he got older, running became walking but keeping his exercise going was always important to him. Carpentry was more than just a hobby to him, and he was very generous in sharing his talent and skill with both family and friends throughout his life. He was a lifelong member of the church of Christ, serving as an Elder for several years. His last years were spent as part of the Sylvan Hills church family.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Nettie (Jackson) Mullens and Lewis Mullens, his daughter Tina Selackovich, a sister Janie Florene Butler, his wife, Edith Joy (Orr) Mullens; and stepson, Bryan Deimer.
He was survived by his sister, Patricia Ann Alcorn, of Sherwood, Arkansas; daughters, Mona Hinojosa and Nita Copeland (Jerry) of North Little Rock; grandchildren, Shea Lea Roberson (Matt) of Abilene, Texas, Britney Ann Finley (Stephen) of Searcy, Arkansas, Walter Selakovich and Sean Selakovich of Little Rock, Arkansas, Michael Hinojosa of Bryant, Arkansas, Nick Hinojosa of Little Rock, and Rachel Jones (Wes) of Bryant, Arkansas; great grandchildren, Braeden Alexander Roberson, Brooklynn Grace Roberson, Russell Barrett Roberson, Baylea Jane Roberson, Stephen Carter Finley, Colten Jackson Finley, Julie Ann Finley, Hayden Hinojosa, Logan Hinojosa, Noah Selakovich, Georgia Selakovich, Anslea Nicole Jones, Jacob Sonny Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sylvan Hills Church of Christ, located at 117 West Maryland, Sherwood, AR. 72120. The service will begin at 1 P.M. on October 7, 2023.
