James A. Hooten, age 77, of Sherwood, passed away November 8, 2016. He was born June 30, 1939, in El Paso, Texas, to Ocel James and Agnes L. Hooten. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary Wayne Hooten. James retired from ABF after 27 years and was a masonic lodge member for 54 years. He was a member of Levy Baptist Church. James loved his family and always enjoyed having them around. He loved to deer and bird hunt, fish and water ski. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Hunt Hooten; brother, Paul Hooten; daughters, Tammy (Scott) Emery and Tonja (Paul) Eagle; grandchildren, Brandon (Shirley) Wade, Candace Sherer, Michael Sherer, and Corey Wade; four step-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild; and two brothers-in-law, John (Elaine) Hunt and Gary Hunt. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff and the hospice staff at Des Arc Nursing and rehab for the loving care they gave to James “Hootie”. Visitation will be Saturday, November 12, at 1:00 p.m. with services at 2:00 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
