He was born August 1, 1947, in Little Rock to Joe Mike and Helen Lucille Hammond. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joe worked in sales and was a member of Rose City Immanuel Baptist Church and Park Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed music, golf, and riding motorcycles with Mickey, Carol, and Debbie. Singing was his passion, leading him to a record deal with RCA Records in Nashville in earlier years. He was in the bands Groovin’ Kind, Common Good, and Lemonades Charades.
He is survived by his former wife, Diane Mayer; daughter, Candace P. Amberg of North Little Rock; three grandchildren, Collin McReynolds, Hunter Amberg and Carson Lydon; one great-grandson, Bradon McReynolds; two sisters, Sarah Lee (Phil) and Mary Ellen Coburn; and by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, February 18, at 12:30 p.m. and funeral services at 2:30 p.m., at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
