John C. Nuessen, 83, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026. He was born on January 3, 1943, in Russellville, Arkansas to Louis Nuessen and Edith Roberts Nuessen.
John became a man of deep faith to whom prayer was an important part of daily life. He was especially devoted to praying the Rosary each day. Those who knew John will remember him as a faithful, kind, and giving man who was always willing to help others. He had a sense of humor and joy for life with an ornery temperament and a knack for knowing when to make you laugh.
John had many professions throughout his life, always committed to finding a way to provide for his family. As a young man, he worked for Safeway where he met the love of his life, Dianna, his wife of 59 years. After his children were born, he continued through several jobs, including working in insurance, owning a series of taco restaurants, and ultimately becoming a truck driver, retiring from SAIA Motor Freight. During his trucking career, he earned his “Million Miler” ring, receiving a diamond in recognition of driving more than one million miles with SAIA. Outside of work, John could often be found tinkering on cars, especially the cars belonging to his children and later his grandchildren. He took great pride in keeping their vehicles running throughout their driving years and was always ready with tools in hand.
John enjoyed many hobbies and activities throughout his life, including racing modified midgets, riding bicycles, camping and canoeing at the Buffalo National River. Above all, he treasured his family and the time he spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Nuessen.
John leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Dianna Nuessen; his two daughters Belinda (Bill) Ortner and Jennifer (Teresa Washington Foster) Nuessen Foster; his honorary daughter Monica (Ugo) Nwachuku; his grandchildren, Breanna (Zac Cantrell) Ortner, Mikayla Ortner, Michael Ortner, and Hannah Nuessen; his honorary grandchildren Adaugo Nwachuku and Chisom Nwachuku; and his siblings, Vickey (Mike) Landwehr, Hazel Grimm, and Mark Nuessen.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 6150 Remount Road, North Little Rock, Arkansas. The Rosary will follow at 10:30 a.m., with Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Father Martin Amaro will officiate with concelebrant Father Alejandro Puello.
John will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His faithful spirit, generous heart, sense of humor, and devotion to those he loved will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in John Nuessen’s name to St. Anne Catholic Church – a place where John’s faith and community continued to grow over the 34 years he was a parishioner.
