Larry Dale Smothers, 84, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away April 23, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 18, 1942, in Alicia, Arkansas, to Earl Smothers and Nevada Taylor Smothers.
Larry devoted his working life to a trade that demanded precision, integrity, and steady resolve. He served as an elevator mechanic for 30 years and later as a State Elevator Inspector for 10 years, earning the respect of those who knew him for the honest, hard-working way he approached each day and the selfless reliability he brought to others.
A man of Baptist faith, Larry also found deep enjoyment in the fellowship of shared interests and lasting craftsmanship. In his spare time he could be found Hunting or fishing, He was a member of the IUEC Local 79, Model A automobile club, Pierce Arrow Society, Horseless Carriage Car Club, Studebaker Drivers Club, AACA Car Club, Oakland Car Club, and Mullins Trailer Club—communities that reflected his appreciation for tradition, dedication, and the people who keep it all running.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Gary Smothers.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 50 years, Jean Smothers; children, Jeff (Leslie) Smothers of Mt. Vernon, AR, and John (Melanie) Spencer of North Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Derek (Whitney) Cox of Haskell, AR, Kayla (Ryan) Spencer of North Little Rock, AR, Kyle (Hayle) Spencer of North Little Rock, AR, Tanner (Hailey) Smothers of Ward, AR, Carter (Emma) Smothers of Mt. Vernon, AR, Gavin (Jayda) Smothers of Mt. Vernon, AR; great grandchildren, Emberleigh, Sage, Sadie, Sully, Dani; and his siblings, Gail Griffey of Little Rock, AR, Mike Smothers of Beebe, AR.
Pallbearers will be John Spencer, Jeff Smothers, Kyle Spencer, Tanner Smothers, Carter Smothers, and Gavin Smothers.
A Visitation will take place Monday April 27, 2026, from 5 PM - 7 PM at Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, AR, 72117.
A Private Burial Service will be held at Rest Hills Memorial Park, North Little Rock, AR officiated by Senior Pastor, Graves of Memorial Baptist Church in North Little Rock, AR.
