Layne Bratcher Fleming, a beautiful soul from Sherwood, Arkansas, gracefully departed this life on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on November 2, 1950, in Helena, Arkansas, she was the beloved daughter of Arthur Boysen and Eberle Stevenson (Daggett) Bratcher. After the untimely passing of her mother, Layne was lovingly raised by her aunt, Mildred Bratcher.
Layne's journey through life was marked by her dedication to education and her passion for nurturing young minds. She graduated from T.A. Futrall High School in Marianna in 1968 and pursued higher education at Arkansas Tech University and Arkansas State University. With a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, she devoted nearly a decade (1972-1981) to shaping the futures of elementary school children as a dedicated teacher.
Layne shared a beautiful life with her late husband of 24 years, James Young Fleming. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, exploring 32 states and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Layne's heart was always open to new experiences and friendships. She was an active member of several organizations, including Women of the Moose, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
A graduate of The Institute of Children’s Literature, Layne's creative spirit shone brightly through her writing. She attended numerous writing workshops and found joy in crafting short stories and poems, many of which were published. Her words touched the hearts of many and left a lasting legacy.
In her later years, Layne found companionship and joy in the company of her dear friend, James Lee Davis, and her many friends at The Moose Lodge. Known for her kind and generous spirit, Layne's friendly personality endeared her to all who knew her. She was a loving daughter, wife, sister, friend, and aunt, whose many nieces and nephews adored her as much as she adored them.
Layne is preceded in death by her brother, Jan Bratcher and is survived by her brothers, Art Bratcher of Marianna and Glenn Bratcher of Katy, Texas, and her sister, Leigh Bratcher Bunten of Bryant. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends, who will always remember her warmth, kindness, and the beautiful light she brought into their lives.
May Layne Bratcher Fleming's soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who loved her. 🌸
