Linda Sue Young

Linda Sue Young, wife of Robert L. Young and daughter of Roy and Avis Hamilton was born on May 27, 1940 and died on June 29, 2026 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Linda was one of the sweetest people you would ever meet. She was always friendly with a smile on her face. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Linda loved cats and other animals. She had a house cat from 5 years old until the time of her death. She said we need to take care of the animals because they cannot take care of themselves. For the last several years she has been puting food on the front porch for stray animals. She was feeding one racoon, two possums, and four or five stray cats each day at the time of her death.

Linda graduated from Little Rock Central High School in May 1958. She attended Texas Womens University and studied nursing for two semesters. Deciding nursing was not her calling. After returning to North Little Rock, she went to work for the State of Arkansas Comptroller's Office as a Key Punch Operator. Benny Johnson, Robert's cousin, worked with her and asked her for a date. She told him he was to young for her. So Benny introduced her to her Robert. Robert was smitten. After 4 dates, she told Robert she was sick. She was sick in bed at home for 12 weeks and Robert visited her at home once or twice a week. Once she was well, they continued dating for a year or so. Robert proposed and she said she wanted to think about it. When he called her the next evening, she said she had thought they would be very happy together. She was right. She didn't like the shape of the diamond he proposed with. So they went together to buy a ring and she found a Marque Diamond which was actually less expensive.

When they were selecting a date for the wedding she wanted to wait until she had paid off her car. She and Robert selected a lot in Indian Hills. Robert designed a house and hired his dad, Fred C. Young to build them a 1900 square foot brick home with a double carport. Robert had saved enough money to pay for the lot and buy a limited amount of furniture and Linda brought some of her bedroom furniture. The house was finished and furnished a week or so before they married on April 2, 1966.

When they returned from their honeymoon they bought $50 worth of groceries, Linda cooked dinner and they both looked at each other and laughed when they realized they had not bought salt.

They added a playroom onto the house in 1971 and added a ground floor den and 2nd story containing 2 bedrooms and a bath in late 1985 with help from Robert's dad, brothers, nephews, and sons.

Robert was very proud of Linda. He told everyone that he could bring someone into their home at any time and it would always be neat, clean, and organized.

When they decided to start a family, Robert told Linda he wanted her to be a stay-at-home mom. She quit her job shortly after she became pregnant with Todd. When she was 7 months pregnant with Todd, Robert's Federal Reserve unit was called to active duty. He was stationed at Fort Carson Colorado for a year and 13 days. Robert's salary dropped about $500 per month during his time in service. He sold his car before he left so Linda would have some savings to pay the mortgage and other bills while he was gone. Linda's parents also helped her with expenditures. Robert could not afford to rent in Colorado and keep the house in North Little Rock, so Robert stayed on post.

Once Todd reached 6 years old, the entire family got involved in sports, T-ball, baseball, competitive soccer, and competitive swimming. morning swim practice, evening swim practive, and meets. Robert coached soccer for about 14 years. The family went to out of town swim meets, and soccer games or tournaments. Once the granddaughters were old enough, Linda was on the go again, taking them to dance practice and the family attended dance recitals.

Linda loved the holidays, because the families could all come together for a good meal and lots of visiting and playing. She especially loved Christmas and always made sure everyone got three or more gifts from her and Robert. She always gave more than one gift for birthdays too. It was a wonderful life.

Linda had radiation for about 5 years after having precancerous breast surgery. The cancer was in remission. She spent the last three years of her life fighting an ulcer which prevented her from eating.

Linda and Robert celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 2, 2026.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert L. Young of North Little Rock, AR; three sons, Todd S. (Dana) Young of Austin, AR, Travis W. (Julie) Young of Sherwood, AR, and Eric C. (Shasta) Young of Sherwood, AR.; five grandchildren, Haley N. (Matt) Bayles of Beebe, AR, Reagan E. (Danny) Cashel of Grand Junction, Colorado, Maddie C. (Nathan) Stewmon of North Little Rock, AR, Montana S. Young of Fayetteville, AR, Christopher E. Young of Sherwood, AR; seven great grandchildren, Hadley Bayles, Anistyn Bayles, Kenna Cashel, Kasey Cashel, Ella Stewmon, Kit Stewmon, and Theodore Stewmon.

Gravside Service will be held Friday July 3, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Rest Hills Memorial Park, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, AR, 72117, with burial to follow at same location.
