Lois Edith Schlachter, 75, of Conway, Arkansas, passed away on February 28, 2026, after a valiant battle with cancer. Lois was born on June 24, 1950, to Edith and Ben Kettelsen in New York. Despite losing her mother at a young age and growing up in relative poverty, Lois graduated high school and attended college before trailblazing as a manager at AT&T. Lois met Stuart Schlachter and they were happily wed on July 18, 1987. Lois and Stuart went on to have two children: Steven David and Melissa Ann. The family lived in New Jersey and Pennsylvania before spending many years in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Lois and Stuart moved to Arkansas in 2019 to be closer to their son.
Lois was deeply invested in her family. She could often be found at her children’s sporting events or chaperoning their school field trips. She prided herself on homecooked dinners and always lending an empathetic ear. She was an active member of her community, known by everyone at the local library and an organizer for the local food pantry. Lois loved to travel, visiting China, Italy, France, Australia, and many others – often with her family in-tow – opening their eyes to the wonders of the world.
Lois was predeceased by her sister Carol and her brothers Stephen and Marty. She adored her son-in-law, Nick, and her daughter-in-law, Chelsea. The feeling was mutual. She was the very proud Nana of Violet Mae Schlachter, born September 16, 2022. Lois held her as an infant, played make-believe with her as a toddler, and brought her to the zoo as the last outing she did in Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Faulkner County Library or your favorite animal shelter, as she was adored by her three dogs: Benji, Skooter, and Jax. In the admittedly biased opinion of her family, she was the best person, and the world is better off having had her in it.
