It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael (Mike) G. Bromley, age 84, who entered eternal rest on July 26th, 2025, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Born on December 19, 1940 in Sweetwater, Texas, Michael was the eldest of three children and a faithful servant, loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and cherished coach and friend to many.
Mike was a proud alumnus of Texas Tech University where he excelled both in the classroom and on the baseball field, playing as a southpaw (left-handed pitcher) for the Red Raiders. His passion for the game led him to play in the semi-pro leagues before eventually dedicating much of his life to mentoring young athletes across Texas and Arkansas.
His professional career began with Southwestern Bell where he worked his way up from lineman to district manager, a testament to his tireless work ethic and dedication. Yet it was his second career—coaching baseball for nearly fifty years—that became his calling. To hundreds of players and their families, he was simply and affectionately known as Coach Bromley.
Mike married his beloved wife, Polly Wilson, on June 10, 1963. Together, they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage, raising two sons—Michael Bromley (Amy) and David Bromley (Christine)—whom he deeply loved and guided with wisdom and care. His pride and joy were his grandsons, Alexander and Nicholas Bromley, whom he adored beyond measure.
Mike was a man of many talents and passions. A proud lefty, lifelong athlete, and Yankee fan, he was an avid golfer who won many tournaments, a skilled tennis player, and a gifted oil painter whose artwork graced the homes of friends and family. In retirement, he found joy in woodworking, generously sharing handcrafted pieces with loved ones.
His legacy stretches far beyond statistics and seasons. Mike overcame a quadruple bypass surgery in 1995 and never let it slow him down. He refused to accept payment for coaching, considering it his ministry, and his generosity helped countless young men find purpose, discipline, and even college scholarships. In recognition of his impact, a local American Legion baseball field was named in his honor.
He was even featured in the book “No Excuses: The Story of the 2008 Sylvan Hills Baseball Bears” by T.C. Squires, where his influence and mentorship were highlighted. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mike’s safety was a top priority to those who loved him, even asking him to steer clear of his beloved “blue building” at the baseball fields for his own protection.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife Polly Bromley, sons Michael Bromley (Amy) and David Bromley (Christine), cherished grandsons Alexander and Nicholas Bromley, sister Nancy Belew, brother Pat Bromley, and many beloved extended family members and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester “Lucky” Bromley and Glendora Bushell, and his brother-in-law Bill Belew.
Mike Bromley was a man of integrity, humility, and grace. He lived his life by strong values, a steady faith in God, and a heart for helping others. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the game he loved.
Visitation along with a celebration of life service will take place at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Rd., Sherwood, AR 72117, on Thursday, July 31st, 2025, 5 – 7p.m. Pastor Jeff Childers will officiate.
