Mildred O. Bell was born August 12, 1919 to the late Henry and Georgiana McDonald in Winston County, Mississippi. She was the eleventh child of thirteen children. She attended Bethel School in Winston County.
In 1955 while living in Cleveland, Ohio, she met and married the love of her life, William (Bill) Bell. They were married in Louisville, Kentucky. They attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Masury, Ohio; the town they made their home and raised their daughter, Jeanie.
Bill and Mildred moved to Los Angeles in 1977. They became members of Second African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church where they served faithfully for more than 25 years. Mildred used her compassion in her occupation by being a Before Needs Counselor at Rose Hills Mortuary in Whittier, California. On January, 20, 2003, Bill was called home to be with the Lord.
In 2004, Mildred moved to Arkansas to be closer to her daughter. She became a member of Holly Grove AME Church and later Quinn Chapel AME Church. She served as the President of the Lay organization and was a Missionary, Stewardess, Church School teacher, member of the Steward Board, Trustee Board Member, and faithful tither. Mildred loved to read and study the bible and had faithful friends who joined her weekly for bible study in her home.
On Saturday, April 21, 2018, Mildred was called home to be with her heavenly father, joining so many of her loved ones. She leaves to mourn, a daughter, Jeanie Gray of Maumelle, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Georgia Wright of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Jewel McDonald (Brenda) of Louisville, Mississippi; brother-in-law, Bennie Simmons (Shirley); a dedicated friend, Ms. Flossie Walker Green; Pastor Mickey Phillips (whom she adopted as her brother); her confidante, Cory Chapman; neighbors and adopted family who checked on her regularly, Byron and Norma Robertson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 29, at 1:00 p.m. with funeral services at 2:00 p.m., both at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock.
