Coached with Paul back in the late 80’s and actually lived in his house for a time. Great guy that taught me a lot. So sorry to hear of his passing.

When “Preacher” Cody stepped onto the field ................”HE CAME TO PLAY”! He was the embodiment of the word “COMMITMENT” & inspired the rest of us to have that same “crossing The Rubicon River Mentality”!

He had great Coaches in Wiley Cox, Vince Bond, Clyde Trickey, Gene Bradley, Jake Shambarger, Raymond Bright, et al and they inspired him to become a great Coach.

It was an honor & a privilege to be your friend & teammate along with the rest of your “amazing Blue Chip classmates” !!!

God’s Speed “Preach”

P.S. DeWain (Wells), RB & Johnny (Wilson) FB, et al will be at “The Gates” to welcome you......

I taught school and was next door neighbor for three years with Preacher. He, Wylie Cox, Doyne Davis and I made many memories crappie fishing every Saturday during spring spawn on lake Nimrod. Preacher and I always fished together. I enjoyed Preachers friendship throughout my life. My sincere condolences to his family. RIP my dear Friend.

Coach Cody was always one of my favorite teachers at SHHS. I was his teachers aide for one year. He taught my Business Math class. He was always kind to everyone and treated everyone as equals.

Preach was my first cousin. I loved his whole family. I can just see the whole family reunited for a joyful reunion in heaven now.. They are all there now. His mother and father were very dear to me. Aunt Fleda and Uncle Kenneth. They are all together again.
An early memory I have of him was when I was five and he was seven. His family came to visit us in southern ark. And I know he didn't really want to play with a little girl but I did coax him to take my dolly in the baby buggy down the driveway. He was not happy to do it but I still remember how he didn't look very excited or happy to play with me. He was kind enough to oblige tho! Funny how certain memories stay so alive, however insignificant at the time.

I will miss having Coach come to Integrity to turn in paper work for Brenda & other staff. His was always so pleasant, had a great smile & his joking manner was like no other.
I had the pleasure of having Coach & Brenda in my CPR classes, he always took the class seriously and we could still have fun while learning to save a life.

Coach Cody was extra special to me!
I remember watching him playing football as a Devil Dog and on defense he was all over the field. It always seemed like he would catch the ball carrier straight on, pick him up, and carrying him back a few steps before slamming him to the ground!
Them playing for him as an assistant under Coach Cox!
Then especially when he became our golf coach for the Devil Dogs! He took us all over and we played against the best in the Arkansas and some great golf courses!
The week before the District Tournament @ Conway Country Club we went for a practice round. Coach Cody always played with us and he made a hole in one! We all went crazy!
During college Coach managed Briarwood CC (later Cadron Valley) and I was a member there and won the club championship (against Winton Norwood, Jim Carson, Tim Gray, etc.).
Coach was always and inspiration to me and he always told me I was a winner and I believed him!
Thank you Coach!
