In loving memory of Raymond D. Hickerson, 83, who passed away on August 3, 2026, in Sherwood, Arkansas. He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love, service, and devotion to his family.
Raymond was born on March 28, 1943, to Zula Earls Hickerson and Newland Bascomb Hickerson in Dardanelle, Arkansas. Ray graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1961 and attended Arkansas Tech University. He married Patricia Helen Hickerson on August 2, 1969, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and together they would raise three daughters. They were married for 57 beautiful years, and he adored his “Patty”.
Raymond loved spending time with his family and cooking large meals for them. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in all their ventures, whether that be sports, hobbies, or their careers. He was a Philadelphia sports fan and delighted in watching the Phillies and the Eagles. He enjoyed coaching softball in his younger days.
Raymond is remembered for his laughter, his smile, and his kindness. He enjoyed writing poetry, writing songs, and sewing.
Raymond proudly served in the United States Navy. He was able to travel the world aboard US Navy ships, including the USS Sterett and the USS Intrepid. He served as a signalman during the Vietnam War. After the Navy, he managed construction and engineering projects. He reveled in telling his family about the different projects, sewer lines, plots of land, and surveying endeavors he had worked on.
He is survived by his devoted wife Patricia Hickerson, their three daughters, and their families; Kate Henning (Keith), Kris Bell-Hicks (Greg), and Sandie Wells (Joe) as well as 5 grandchildren; Sydney Hickerson, Sam Bell, Max Bell, Jay Henning, and Sophie Wells. He is survived by one brother; Floyd Hickerson (Ann), two sisters; Joan Talley, and Linda Steuart (Hank) and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother; Zula Earls Hickerson, father; Newland Bascomb Hickerson, and one brother; Joe Hickerson and brother-in-law; Charles Talley.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Kian Parsa and the compassionate nurses at the VA hospital for their care.
Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, AR 72117, US, on August 10, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Wells, Greg Hicks, Sam Bell, Max Bell, and Todd Bell.
Catering will take place on August 10, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
