Shirley was born in San Marcus, Texas on August 21, 1952, to Richard and Mabel Simmons. She had three brothers, Robert (Bob), Ed and Rick Simmons. As a teen, Shirley lived in Jacksonville, Arkansas where she graduated high school, then soon after met her husband of 50 years, Bobby Young, at the Tastee Freeze in Jacksonville, Arkansas on December 17, 1972. Shirley and Bobby went on to have three sons, BJ, Kenneth and Corey.
Later she became a longtime screen printer at Southern Coating where she retired after 20 years of service.
Shirley loved camping, watching the water, puzzles, road trips, people watching and admiring the fall foliage. Most of all, Shirley loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking for her family, making all their favorite meals and bringing her family together with her wonderful food.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mabel Simmons; and her brother, Robert Lewis Simmons. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Young of Jacksonville, AR; her brothers, Ed and Rick Simmons; her sons and their spouses, BJ and Amy Young of Jacksonville, AR, Kenneth and Stacy Young of Nashville, TN, and Corey and Shannon Young of Jacksonville, AR; as well as her grandsons, Mike Honea, Nick Honea and Richard Young.
Visitation will be at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd., North Little Rock, Arkansas on Friday, December 23, 2022 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Rest Hills Memorial Park. www.griffinleggettresthills.com.
