I'm very grateful to have know Ada. She will be missed. She was a wonderful and loving person. You are gone but never forgotten.

Gone, but not forgotten.  Today would have been Ada's 99th birthday. Ada was my dear friend and mentor. Most colorful  with so many stories of living a full life. Ada was in her eighties when she started losing her eyesight to macular degeneration.  Instead of getting depressed,  Ada  just looked at it as another problem to be addressed.  She went to the lighthouse for the blind to learn survival skills in a visually impaired world. She was always up for a challenge.  And loved her life of continuing education. Her actions were always honorable and of love. I sorely miss Ada. She was one of a kind.

I'll never forget the first time I met Ada and Dellanne Vitiello at Temple Tifereth Jacob in Hialeah.  That was the beginning  of two wonderful  friendships for me. I sorely miss Ada.  She passed on great wisdom to me. She will live on in my heart. I'll never forget you Ada. God be with you, Michelle, and the rest of Ada's family.

I am so grateful for these posts.  They are bringing me comfort.

Ada was a fixture in our lives although she may have never known it. My three children loved her very much and always smiled and ran to her whenever they saw her sitting in her front porch. Ada taught me a lot about life and being grateful. I don't think I have ever met someone as grateful as Ada. Maybe she knew that good people weren't so easy to come by so she cherishes the good in people as she would a fine jewel. It was always a great pleasure to speak to her and to be around her. She never ever complained or showed that she was in a bad mood. In the 10 years that I've known Ada and I would see her quite often, seeing that we were neighbors, I never heard Ada say anything negative. What I loved about Ada most was that every time I saw her she taught me something. She was a teacher at heart.  I pray and hope that God give me the strength of character and kindness that Ada always showed me.  I will miss her terribly. She was my friend and she loved my children very much. They still ask me if they can bring her flowers from my garden and I tell them that she is now watching our garden from the heavens above. They asked me is she now an angel mommy and I replied she always was...

Ada Sails was a generous spirit. She was always happy and fun loving. One evening she sang old songs all the way through dinner entertaining us and our guests. She loved line dancing, music, reading, writing short stories, shopping thrift stores, mentoring people, traveling, and animals. She knew how to think "outside the box". I will cherish many precious memories of my dear friend Aida Sails.

Ada had a generous spirit. She was always happy and full of life. One time she sang old songs all the way through dinner entertaining us as well as other guests. She loved music, animals, travel, mentoring people, and could think "outside the box". I will cherish many sweet memories!!

Michele, I hope all of you are doing OK.  I know you will miss Ada.  I have thought several times of calling Ada but I know I cannot reach her.  Ada was a dear friend for many years.  She and Sam will both be missed and remembered.

Ada Sails was a woman who touched people in simple and meaningful ways each and every day of her life.  She was outspoken, a woman filled with incredible internal strength and a wonderful sense of humor.

Ada was always strong, courageous, straightforward, and more often than not, usually right.

She was a true matriarch of the family.

Always well-dressed and put together, Ada was a woman who had a really good life.  She was happy with her lot in life.  Of course, as we know, she was a woman filled with the highest integrity.

Being legally blind from macular degeneration was a challenge that she faced,  Ada still managed to  maintain a quality of life.  For example, she read thousands of talking books, the audio books from the Lighthouse.

Ada was born in 1916 to Issac and Pauline Miller, the oldest of 4 children.  All of her siblings, Lou, Dave, and Evelyn, have predeceased her.

Ada and her husband Sam had a wonderful, wonderful marriage that lasted until his death in 1992.  Together, they worked, traveled, and took care of family members.  She was his rock.

Ada loved her son Elliott, who lives in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn.  They would talk on the phone every single day.  This connection to Ada gave her and Elliott great comfort.

Ada was always proud of her nieces and nephews.  Also great nieces and nephews.  And the great, great nephew, Izaiah (with whom she was very close).

I must say that friendship was very important to Ada.  She was an incredibly loyal friend.  If a friend was in need, Ada was right there by their side.  And always, when a family member was in need, she was there.

It was extremely hard for us to see her so sick.  We knew her as a tough, strong, solid, and independent person.  Nevertheless, these few months she handled with dignity and grace.  However, without Omar Fernandez, her friend and neighbor, Ada's quality of life would not be possible.

All in all, Ada Sails was a great woman.  Even after she has died, we will continue to measure ourselves by her standards.  We will try to live up to her ideals.  We will strive to fulfill the promises she mad to the world.

May she rest in peace.
