YESNER M.D., BERNARD, Born November 10,1915, Died January 13, 2019. Bernard Yesner, M.D. passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on January 13, 2019 of natural causes. He was born to Jacob Yesner and Anna Schweiger in New York on November 10, 1915. He received his BS degree from the University of Arkansas in 1936 and from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in 1940. He completed an internship at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica, NY and was called to service in October 1941. During his military service, he was initially attached as a medical officer to the 77th cavalry at Fort Dix. He was in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from March 1942 to January 1943. Captain Yesner received the American Service Defense Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon. He received an honorable discharge in October 1943. Following discharge from the Army, he embarked on his career in medicine first in Jamaica Heights, NY then relocated to Coral Gables, FL in 1948. He was in diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He was a life member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He was an Associate Clinical Professor in the department of Family Practice at the University of Miami in its infancy and for the next 20 years. He was an exemplary physician, practicing medicine in its purest form. He was an extraordinary diagnostician as he practiced the "Art of Medicine". He was respected by his colleagues and revered by his patients. He was a founding physician of Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, a founding member of South Miami Hospital and served as President of the Medical Staff at South Miami in 1975. He retired from the active practice of medicine in 1983 after 40 years. Dad was the "on call" physician for the FBI and an active member of Miami Dade Civil Defense Team during the time of the Cold War. Dad was a 32nd degree mason, and very active in his Miracle Lodge, #321 for over 50 years. He and his wife Annette were founding members of Coral Gables Jewish Center, now Temple Judea of Coral Gables. Dad was a member and active supporter of the University of Arkansas Alumnus Association. He was made a life member in September 1986. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans. In retirement, dad was very active in the Temple Judea Soup Kitchen, and enjoyed making stain glass, and being both a philatelist and a numismatist. Dad was a man of many. Dad is predeceased by his wife Annette and his daughter Leslie. He is survived by his daughter Judith Saka (Sandy), his son Alan Yesner , M.D. (Michelle), 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
