OBITUARY

Billie-Ellen “Billie” Steinberg (nee) Walfish of Hollywood, Florida and Toronto, Canada passed away on July 8, 2018 at the age of 66. She was born on Nov. 16, 1951 in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of Irma and David Walfish.

She spent her youth in Toronto, and after graduating from York Mills Collegiate Institute and attending York University, she settled in Hollywood, Florida where she spent wonderful times with her Floridian family members. She was a successful entrepreneur, owning an insurance agency in Fort Lauderdale for 10 years.

In March of 2000, Billie-Ellen married the love of her life, Albert Lester. They settled in Toronto where they enjoyed one another, cruised through Europe, traveled through Canada, were patrons of the theater and enjoyed their family of dogs (which were always a big part of her life). Billie was an avid game player, winning tournaments in Backgammon, cards, board and computer games. She loved music from the 60’s and 70’s, loved to read and was an expert solver of crossword puzzles. Most of all, Billie was a dedicated and devoted sister, aunt and cousin. Billie-Ellen is survived by her loving brother, Harvey Walfish and his wife Missy Koseff Walfish, their son Brett Walfish and his wife Katie Smirnova Walfish, as well as many family members that loved her deeply. Billie was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Albert Lester.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Rabin and the wonderful doctors, PAs, nurses and staff at the “Dana Farber Cancer Clinic” and “Brigham and Women’s Hospital” in Boston, Mass. for their exceptional efforts and care. A special and appreciative thank you to Anita Joseph for her dedication to Billie in Toronto and to her cousins Cindy Levi, Elise Koseff, and Heidi Lipman for their love and assistance in Boston.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 19 at 1PM at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel, 17250 West Dixie Hwy., North Miami Beach, 33160, followed by interment at Mt. Sinai Memorial Gardens, Opa-Locka. The family will be sitting Shiva and receiving guests Thursday following the internment, Friday and Sunday at the Walfish residence in Wellington, Fl.

Dear Harvey and Family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences on the passing of Billie Ellen. I was not aware that she was so sick so it came as a surprise to me. I used to bump into her from time to time in Toronto but we lost touch.
Please remember the good memories that you had together. May you know of no more sorrow.
Your cousin Debby Goldstein and family
