Clara Jane Green

May 19, 1925 - March 1, 2020

Clara was born to Nicholas and Catherine Kovach on May 19, 1925 in Greensburg, PA. She had two sisters: Louise and Libby. Clara joined the United States Coast Guard in June 1945 and served until May 1946 earning the rank of Seaman, First Class as World War II came to an end. Her USCG military career brought her to Miami where she met the love of her life, Harold Green. They married and had five boys: Gerald, David, Richard, Stephen and Scott.

Clara and Hal were entrepreneurs: They opened The Corral BBQ in Hollywood, FL., The Tomboy Club in Miami, Chick N Subs restaurant and a Coin Laundry in Opa-locka. Hal’s dream was that his boys would follow in their footsteps and open their own restaurants, but that didn’t happen. Jerry joined the Miami Police Department and served 33 years. David was a Army Helicopter Pilot during the Vietnam War where he earned a Silver Star and was later killed during a training mission stateside in 1972. Richard opened his own business, Database Electric and later worked for Miami-Dade County as an Electrical Inspector before his death in 2015. Stephen is still working for the City of Plantation as their Chief Electrical Inspector. Scott retired from Miami-Dade County Public Schools after 30 years as an Auto Technology Instructor.

Clara was a coal miner’s daughter who lived a full life as a hard working wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The last four years Clara resided at the Alexander S. Nininger State Veteran’s Nursing Home in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Clara is survived by sons: Gerald (Cathy), Stephen (Cathy), and Scott (Heather), grandchildren, Gregory, Jeff, Chelsea, Brianna, Brittany, Cassandra, Kyle, Carrie, Kelle, Tyler, great grandchildren, Vanessa, Amy, Megan, Natalie, David, Anthony, Ashton, Bella, Kaiden and Karter in addition to a host of other loving family members and friends who will sadly miss Clara.
