Deborah Phyilis Newman

Deborah Newman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, passed away on January 27, 2023. She was the widow of the late Harold Newman, the prominent Utilities Analyst in Miami-Dade County. She is survived by her beloved daughter Susan Geller (Gary), her devoted brother Michael Feldstein (Barbara), their adult children Penny (Josh) and grandchildren (Audrey and Jonathan) and Mark (Debbie) and grandchildren (Zach and Cooper).

Debbie was a glamorous woman with a vivacious personality. She studied classical piano for 15 years, played Scrabble, taught Spanish and wrote musical parodies for her daughter’s high school PTA, senior retirement residence, and other venues. She was still writing a play for the retirement residence up until her death.

She was most satisfied with her 45 years as a compassionate volunteer at Broward House for AIDS patients, Covenant House for runaways, and the Literacy Project where she taught Haitians and others how to read and write English.

Debbie will be remembered with love and affection, kindness and humor, and her many talents.

I lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be to Animal Rescue, Inc., Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Fisher Center for Alzheimers Research Foundation and to any organization to help Ukraine.
