Barnet, Janis (“Jan”), passed away on September 19, 2022. She was born on December 22, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia to parents Bernice and Eddie Melniker of Miami. A resident of South Florida for over 70 years, she graduated from the Lear School, attended Miami Beach High and attended the U of M as an active member of AEPHI Sorority. Married to Lionel “Bud” Barnet on August 28, 1960, they just celebrated their 62nd anniversary. She was mother to and survived by her beloved children, daughter Karen Barnet Parker, son Marc Steven Barnet, and grandson Eric Lee Backer along with her son-in-law Randy Parker and granddaughter-in-law Olivia Backer. Jan was involved in various organizations including President of Elementary PTAs, Assistant Leader of Kendall Girl Scouts, and 25-year founding member of Congregation Bet Breira all while she worked as a legal assistant for over 35 years in Lionel’s Law Office. She was a generous hearted woman and a shining light to everyone she touched.
Services will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South Funeral Home located at 11655 S.W. 117 Avenue, Miami, Florida 33186.
The Barnet Family will be receiving friends and family following the burial (Shiva) at the home of Karen and Randy Parker located at 6520 SW 159 Place Miami, Fl 33193.
Directions - from cemetery west to 157th Avenue, north to 64th Street, turn left/west, entrance to Chelsea Estates on left, Gate Code 108. Parking along lake side or a block down on the right to a grass area for guest parking.
