Morton, who also went by “Mort,” is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Joan Pollner, and his sons Glenn and Andrew, his grandchildren Danielle and Adam (who knew Morton as “Papa Mort”), and his daughter-in-law Ayelet (wife of Glenn).
Mort and Joan were married on February 3, 1963. After marrying, Mort and Joan lived in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens and then Bayside, Queens, before moving to Monroe Township, NJ in 1970, and to New City, NY in 1978, where they lived for 25 years. In 2004, Mort and Joan moved to Monroe, NY. They began wintering in Delray Beach, FL in 2010, and made Delray Beach their permanent residence in 2021.
Morton was born in Patterson, NJ on December 29, 1933. He was raised by his mother Rose and his father Moe. Later in life, Morton learned that Rose was his adoptive mother, and that he was named after his biological mother Molly, who passed away due to complications from childbirth. Morton graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1951. After high school, Morton served in the U.S. Army for two years during the latter part of the Korean War. He then attended NYU and then Baruch College, where he received a degree in accounting in 1962. Morton worked for many years as a tax accountant for Union Carbide, and later for the State of Indiana and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, before retiring at age 75.
Mort most enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. When not spending time with family, Mort loved going to and watching ballgames. He was a longtime fan of the NY baseball giants and Willie Mays, attending games at the Polo Grounds. When the Giants left for San Francisco, Mort became a NY Mets fan. Mort also was a fan of the NY football Giants and the NY Knicks. Mort enjoyed reading, going to shows and concerts, and traveling. Morton was active in synagogue and community life, especially enjoying Men’s Club at the New City Jewish Center. Mort served as treasurer for the Rockland County chapter of NAMI for six years, and did volunteer tax work for AARP and its members during his winters in Delray Beach.
Morton will be greatly missed by his family, friends and others who knew and loved him.
