Robert Stephen CLOONAN, age 78, of Plantation, Florida passed away after a long illness at his home on Friday, July 31, 2020. Robert, "Bobby," was born September 28, 1941 in Suffern, New York to the late John Burke Cloonan and Virginia Mary Doyle. He met Pam, the love of his life, at the age of 18. They married three and a half years later and had five wonderful daughters: Cathy, Susie, Jill, Linda, and Kimmy.
Bobby grew up in Mahwah, New Jersey along with his two other rowdy Irish brothers and his sister. After graduating from Mahwah High School, he worked as a mechanic where he became skilled at his trade which ultimately opened the doors for him to use those skills in many different areas. This also made him the "go-to" Mr. Fix It for family and friends, a role that never made him rich but made him a blessing to everyone. After he got married, he graduated from the Police Academy and worked for the Mahwah Police Department. Following the births of three children, he and Pam decided to relocate to Florida to be closer to grandparents and complete their family with two more children. He started a new career with Southern Bell where he worked as a service tech for twenty-nine years. Retiring early allowed him to spend time with his wife, five daughters (#girldad), five son-in-laws, and twelve grandchildren, enjoying countless get-togethers, cruises, and family adventures. He was the stronghold of the family. We will all miss his contagious smile, quick wit, gossip sessions, inability to keep a secret, and constant interruptions of every subject with a joke. Bob was not a man of many serious words, but his infectious personality left its mark on everyone he met. We will miss him dearly and love him forever.
Bob is survived by his wife, Pam, and their daughters and their families: Cathleen and her husband Joseph Williams; Susan and her husband Daniel M'Sadoques; Jill and her husband Robert Feick; Linda and her husband Brian Stanish; and Kimberly and her husband Paul Donovan. He is survived by his twelve grandchildren and their spouses and one soon-to-be great-granddaughter: Joey, Missy (Layton and step-children Ashton and Zoe), Daniel, Derek (Angelia), Nik (Amaryllis and expected daughter Azalea), Brooke, Paige, Alexis, Kyle, Mackenzie, Griffin, and Christine. He is also survived by his siblings John Cloonan and his wife Nancy, Donald Cloonan, and sister Virginia and her husband Richard Zelnick, along with many nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
Due to COVID-19, a "Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date when family and friends can gather safely.
