July 30, 1960 – January 27th, 2021
Rose Marie Garcia nee Pearce, affectionately known as Rosie to all and Rosa to her beloved husband Pedro was born on July 30, 1960 to very proud parents Leo and Sarah Pearce of Nassau, Bahamas.
Rosie was the second daughter born to Leo and Sarah and exemplified the sweetest little girl a parent could wish for from day one. While her older sister would venture into mischievous situations Rosie would always prefer to play it safe. This would follow her into adulthood where she was teased as the “favourite” one who could do no wrong!
Rosie attended Sacred Heart Primary School and Aquinas College High School.
Rosie’s first job was at an insurance company where her duties were secretarial. She then took a job at Cycles Unlimited owned by her uncles Rudy and Al Campbell. In later years she would reminisce on her days spent with her uncles, sharing lunch and their favourite Coca Cola each day.
Rosie visited her Uncle Paul in Florida one summer and instantly met the love of her life after spending time with her cousins there.
Rosie returned to Nassau with Pedro to pack up and move to Florida to marry her newly found boyfriend. This came as a surprise to all as she was known as a quiet, shy, unassuming young girl who really didn’t talk to strangers especially “boys.” But to the amazement of all family, Rosie did pack up that very summer and got married immediately upon returning to Florida. This marriage lasted 40 years or as stated, “Till death do us part.” Rosie and Pedro have three children, Pete, Olivia and Peter. They have been blessed with two wonderful granddaughters, Juliana and Ariella.
If there was ever a couple who took their marriage vows seriously it was Pedro and Rosie. No one and nothing came between them through to the end. Rosie adored and agreed with everything Pedro said. She would do absolutely nothing without his permission or consent. Likewise Pedro had no other best friend, only his Rosa. If she was ever wrong he would find a way to say she was right. Pedro would do anything to make her happy even if it meant driving thousands of miles. He took care of her and she made sure she did everything his way.
Rosie never worked after they were married and Pedro knew he could find her home when he was done working. She patiently waited for him each day.
Rosie became sick in 2017 and her personal doctor, nurse, friend and husband was one in the same, her one and only Pedro. Pedro did everything for Rosie without any outside assistance. No one can figure out how he managed to do this and still work but he did. Even when asked if he could use some help he insisted “No man, I got this.” When the time came he took care of her as if she was his baby not once complaining or accepting outside help.
Rosie’s favourite pastime was crocheting which she started as a child and taught herself to crochet everything from Christmas ornaments to blouses and purses she so proudly wore. Every child born in the family was given their first blanket crocheted by Rosie.
Next to her husband and children dear to her heart were her animals which she named and loved dearly.
Having grown up in the Bahamas where family beach picnics were popular Rosie still carried that tradition on in Florida as her favourite thing was to go to Sanibel Island or the Keys. She would call to proudly report her beach finds to her sisters in Nassau.
Her home was her castle and she built her world around it. She enjoyed just sitting and crocheting while watching her huge fish tank. Rosie may have been a shy little girl but that soon changed as Rosie never met anyone that she would not engage in a conversation with and debate her belief to the end. Giving up was not an option.
She loved her children beyond measure. Like Pedro could right her wrongs she miraculously could do the same for her children. Her world was her husband and her children. Her life was devoted to them. She will forever be the wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend we all will love, cherish and remember to eternity.
Rosie lived most of her adult life in the United States but stayed steadfast and true to her country and held the Bahamian flag high.
In her 60 short years here on earth she devoted her life as a loving wife to Pedro and dedicated mother to her three children.
Rosie will forever remain in the hearts of her husband Pedro, her sons Pete and Peter, her daughter Olivia, her granddaughters Juliana and Ariella, son in law Andy, sisters Sandra, Leisa and Kathy, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and many other family members and friends.
