Spencer Bertram Troy celebrated his 77th Birthday on December 1st, and his strong Spirit left this Earth in the early hours of Tuesday, December 5th, 2023 in Boca Raton, Florida. He is predeceased by his parents Rose and Seymour and his older brother Stuart.
Spencer was born in Mount Vernon, NY in 1946 where he grew up and attended Temple at The Free Synagogue Of Westchester with his beloved family.
Loving, attentive and proud father of Angeline-Rose, recent grandfather of EJ, brother, spouse, & uncle, Spencer’s daily life was busy with his work, coworkers, family and friends.
Spencer Troy received his Bachelors & Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and his MBA from UCLA, in Los Angeles, CA, while also diving with NAUI Navy Seals and employed at Lockheed Martin helping design the potable water system for the L1011.
During his years at college, Spence was an avid and successful competitive kickboxer and karate practitioner which he continued throughout his life until the resulting injuries to his body no longer permitted him to continue. His family watched (with concern) as Spence fought & won the famous Elvis Presley Kickboxing Tournament in his Class in Memphis, TN in the 1980’s!
Eventually, Spence was able to transition to scuba diving and swimming in Florida and the nearby Bahamas and as far away as the wonderful clear waters Portugal & Greece with his wife, daughter and beloved in-laws, continuing his gentler sports eventually into his early 70’s.
Spence left Lockheed and moved to Guatemala from California to help his Dad with his Central American Lumber businesses and then moved in with his father Seymour in South Florida, where he met and married Elaine at the end of September in 1978. He took a job with The Equitable Insurance Company of Ft. Lauderdale and eventually created a successful business selling insurance to many of the small cities all over the state of Florida. As a result, Spencer was always Number One in Sales at his company.
He moved on to a job with Beville Bressler & Schumann (BBS) that took the new little family from New Jersey to Memphis, TN following the happy birth in 1985 of their first and only child, their beautiful daughter, Angeline-Rose, and eventually back up to the NorthEast business scene Spence was most fortunate to transfer away from his 1986 job with an investment company at the World Trade Center.
For many years he worked as Managing Director for Cornell roommate Harold Rifkin’s Mortgage Company in Princeton, NJ. Following his friend’s retirement from the business, Spence worked for several financial trading establishments on the Eastern Seaboard, including as Senior VP of Originations for X-Caliber, JVB Financial and finally creating Global Development & Investment Group where Spence worked in private placement of debt & equity.
A young magic-enthusiast for children’s birthday parties, Spence felt forever fortunate to meet fellow-Cornell Student Ricky Jay, who introduced him to The Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA, before eventually becoming a world-famous Magician. Spencer then became an enthusiastic member of the Magic Castle since the late 1960’s.
Even though he eventually struggled with aggravating & intensifying pain and mobility and had trouble getting around, Spence continued to swim, and over the years, learned everything he could about the musculoskeletal system so that he could help himself.
A lifelong movie and music buff, Spencer loved bluegrass, opera and country music, sending daily selections to his friends and family. Like his beloved Dad, he enjoyed a good “dad joke” and got a kick out of retelling them, sometimes even more so than his intended audience!
Spencer was also quite adept at Origami, a gentler martial art, and always enjoyed entertaining friends, family and new acquaintances with his talent for folding colorful paper (and dollar bills) into surprising objects.
Spence also shared his passion for new technology and gadgets with his daughter and was a wonderfully involved and supportive father, calling, texting or emailing Angeline-Rose & her Mom every day of his life.
In his later years, Spencer enjoyed leading a conversation, spirituality and meditation group at the local library in his town of Highland Beach, FL.
While in the hospital in Boca Raton for the final two months of his active, industrious life, Spencer was surrounded daily by his beloved family and friends, as well as his attentive daily Aides from “Comfort Keepers of Delray Beach”.
Spencer is survived by his beloved daughter Angeline-Rose and her Mother Elaine, Angeline’s husband Edward and Spencer’s 6 month old Grandson EJ (Edward John), and Spencer’s dear sister Barbara Troy Mullenix of Tamarac, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Spencer’s name may be made to Friends of The Israel Defense Forces.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my Shepherd;
I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down
in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;
He leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the
valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me;
Thou preparest a table before me in
the presence of mine enemies;
Thou anointest my head with oil,
Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the house of the
Lord forever.
