OBITUARY

Stephanie Victoria DeMars

August 7, 1987November 13, 2021

Dear Friends, It is with crushed hearts that Chuck and I let you know of the sudden passing of our precious daughter Stephanie; 34 years was not enough time. Deeply saddened are her sister Kim and doggy companion – Miles. We appreciate the number of calls and texts we have received from Stephanie’s friends describing their love for her and sharing “epic” Steph stories. Truly comforting during this time. We have chosen to celebrate Stephanie’s life in a non-traditional way that honors what she loved. Stephanie loved the ocean and her dog Miles more than most anything. Her Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm at Costa d’Este Resort (3244 Ocean Drive) in Vero Beach, Florida. This was our last vacation trip with Stephanie to celebrate her recent master’s degree and she chose the place because Miles had free run of the hotel and beach; leash free. Miles had, as she said, “the bestest time”. A gathering time in the Crystal Ballroom to remember Stephanie through pictures and stories will be held between 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm, with a Celebration of Life ceremony beginning at 2:30 pm on the beach. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask you to consider a donation to Jamie’s Dog Rescue in Miami, Florida to honor Steph’s love for dogs and the special care Jamie gave in taking in and adopting out a stray Steph found in South Beach (more to this story…). Donation information: https://jamiesrescue.com/donate/ We welcome all who wish to help us honor Stephanie’s life on December 5, 2021. Debbie and Chuck

Stephanie was one of the smartest, most hilarious and fun people I knew - it was impossible to have a bad time with her and the laughter was non-stop. She truly had a zest for life, travel and her sweet Miles and that zest was contagious. She will be sorely missed and I hope her family and Miles can find comfort.

I knew Stephanie from her time with Royal Caribbean while I am with WWF. Our core teams worked together for a number of years in an innovative partnership to benefit the ocean. She was exceptionally knowledgeable about all of the technical and operational elements of the company that we dealt with in spite of being so young. She could laugh one minute and be very serious the next. We'll miss her. The ocean has lost a determined advocate.

This is Aunt Linda, I'm reminded of one summer when Kim and Steph were young, they would come up from Florida to see the "Georgia Gang" and spend time with us!! STEPHANIE was Adorable 🥰 with her red hair and freckles AND that SMILE oh how I loved that precious smile!!She would laugh at the way we talked, that "Funny Accent" she would say, I'd get so "tickled"at her.One year in particular I had those metal braces on my teeth and she would say oh Aunt Linda what pretty jewelry you have on your teeth and smiled that Contagious SMILE of hers!!She was Such a JOY!!! I hold those memories of her as a little freckle faced little girl, and turning into an Awesome young Lady in my heart!! FOREVER

There are so many wonderful memories collaborating with Stephanie to innovate and achieve sustainable travel initiatives. Over time, I came to truly appreciate and enjoy her pertinacious style and practical commitment to saving the world's oceans.

One of the more amusing experiences with Stephanie stands out for me. When we first started working with Stephanie, I searched high and low for a dinner meeting restaurant that served sustainable seafood since part of her responsibilities includled leading the Royal Caribbean-WWF seafood project. Imagine my surprise when I learned Stephanie, as she perused the menu, that she emphatically (and I emphasize emphatically) detests the flavor of seafood. She ordered the only non-seafood item on the menu - a grass-fed, sustainable burger!

My enduring memory of Stephanie will be her resolute style, her smile, and her passion for oceans.

Please let me know if you want any additional photos of Stephanie in the field.

I had the privilege of meeting Stephanie during my time at Celebrity Cruises. Deeply passionate about the environment, she brought heart and soul to her projects. I loved to see her fired up sharing her point of view. I admired her "tell it like it is attitude", and deeply appreciated her wit and sense of humor. I have very fond memories over the years, especially of our trip to the Galapagos in January 2020. We had the opportunity to visit one of the local parks that had been restored and her spirit of adventure led the way when we spotted a zip line. She went first as I was apprehensive and encouraged me to give it a go. She was full of life and joy, and her laughter was contagious. While her time on earth was much too brief, I am grateful to have known her for even just a few years. She truly made the world a better place. May she rest in peace. Sending love to all, my thoughts and prayers are with Stephanie, her family and all of us who knew her and are better for it.

Joining the chorus of Stephanie’s colleagues-turned-friends who are reeling from this news. I got to know Stephanie through Royal Caribbean’s partnership with WWF and work with GSTC advancing sustainability of tour operations and destination stewardship. I was so impressed with Stephanie’s tenacity and effectiveness quarterbacking companywide initiatives aligned with her passion to protect our oceans and connect across cultures. Her work improved our environment and people’s lives around the world—a legacy in itself. But perhaps most of all I will miss Stephanie’s rare spunk and spirit. Her eyes lit up when she talked about her mom, Miles, ocean science, and karaoke. After some years of plotting it, when we finally went out for a karaoke night, my jaw practically hit the floor when she started singing. What a voice, and what a tough act to follow. I’m sharing a photo of us modeling some ship safety gear at Seatrade. I will always remember Stephanie and smile.

Stephanie had a noticeably vibrant energy about her. I worked with her for a time at Royal Caribbean, and from the moment I met her, she exuded a sense of calm, as if she were wise beyond her years. She just seemed so grounded, and I admired that greatly. As a collaborator, she was passionate about her work and about making a positive impact. She brought humor, warmth, and a hint of impishness to meetings. I am so sorry to learn that Stephanie is gone. My heart goes out to her family, her friends, and her beloved dog. I hope you find peace and comfort in one another.

I worked with Stephanie as part of the partnership between WWF & Royal Caribbean and got to know her over the past couple of years through our work together to push forward sustainable tour operations and destinations. Stephanie was so bright, energetic and determined, driving important sustainability work forward within Royal. The picture below is from a trip to Hamburg, Germany in September 2018 – when we signed an agreement to work together with Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development (BMZ) to complete GSTC Destination Assessments in Cozumel, Belize City, and Roatan. She truly had an impact across the world. My deepest sympathies to Stephanie's family and friends - she will be missed.

I’m so saddened to hear this news. I had the opportunity to work with Stephanie for a number of years in the partnership between Royal and WWF. Stephanie was passionate and knowledgeable about conservation and the science behind our oceans. She was a driving force in our significant partnership achievements towards making the industry and destinations more sustainable in the long term, for people and the planet. Her impact will not be forgotten. Sending condolences to her family during this difficult time.
