A reception occurred in Heaven of the sweetest and most joyful kind, as Gladys Heriveaux received her wings and was ushered into the presence of the Lord peacefully on August 16, 2021. She was 78 years old.
Gladys was born to the parents of Edouard Michel and Herna Prophete in Cap-Haitien, Haiti on December 5, 1942. She was the second of 5 children, sisters Maryse and Claudie and brothers Harry and Frantz. Gladys migrated to St. Louis, Missouri in the early 60’s and later made New York home for over 35 years. It was there she had her first son Harry Miguel Jr. In 1969, she married Herno Heriveaux and became mom to Herno’s son, Hervey, at the age of 3. They then had a daughter, Marie Claudie, whom she named after her younger sister.
Gladys was proud to retire from State Farm Insurance as a secretary with over 26 years of service. During her years in New York, Gladys was an active member of the Haitian Social Club Primevere where she continued her childhood friendships and Haitian roots with yearly Haitian carnival, picnics and dances. Gladys enjoyed dancing and listening to Haitian music. Her favorite bands were Tabou Combo and Nu Look.
Gladys’s legacy was how deeply she cared for her family, her native country Haiti and without a doubt anyone who knew Gladys could attest that she had a positive and joyful spirit. She had a smile of a queen! As with all queens she loved to dress up claiming her title of “Diva”.
Gladys’s wishes upon her death was that her loved ones not mourn her passing, but celebrate her life and always remember the moments she shared with everyone.
At the time of her death she lived with her loving daughter Marie Claudie in Mobile Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Maryse and Claudie and younger brother Frantz.
Gladys leaves those who will cherish her memory: her brother Dr. Harry Michel, 3 children: Harry (wife Stacey), Hervey (wife Jeanine) and Marie Claudie (husband Reginald). Her 7 grandchildren oldest to youngest: Emani Mhoon, RJ Mhoon, Noelle Heriveaux, Sophia Heriveaux, Bryce Miguel, Jolie Heriveaux and Kennedy Miguel. In addition a host of family and friends.
