Hubert Sydney Escarpeta, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, at his home in Miramar, Florida, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 22, 1934, in Belize City, Belize, to Sydney and Virginia Escarpeta. Hubert was predeceased by his parents and his twin sister, Loretta.
Hubert was married to his first wife, Rosalind, in Belize City. He is survived by Rosalind and their children: Carolyn, Hubert Jr., Kirk, and Densford. After Hurricane Hattie devastated much of the country, he migrated to the United States in 1964 to create a better life for his family, settling in the Bronx, New York. Hubert worked for many years at Beacon Looms Textile Company in Teaneck, New Jersey, until his retirement.
While living in the Bronx, Hubert started a new life with Margaret, who predeceased him. From this marriage, he is survived by his son, Damian.
Hubert was a proud Belizean and never let us forget it—with his strong Creole accent and endless stories of home, he made sure his culture lived on in all of us. He was a founding member of the Belize Independence Group, which celebrated Belize’s independence on September 21st each year with family and friends. He cherished time with loved ones and was always welcoming to visitors at his home.
After Margaret's passing, Hubert relocated to Florida to be closer to family. He lived a full life and was able to visit his beloved homeland before his transition.
In his final days, Hubert was cared for and comforted by Rosalind, his first love, who remained by his side until his very last breath.
In addition to his children, Hubert is survived by two sisters, Joyce and Muriel; grandchildren: Jamiela, Deiandrea, Tianni, Hubie, Tifani, Candice, Troy, Brianna, Brandon, Brittani, Samantha, and Dmear; great-grandchildren: Atiriis, Dayjanay, Anja, Autumn, Kingston, Zora, Mackenzie, Justice, Camryn, Austin, Grayson; daughters-in-law: Nadine and Nordia; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
May his soul rest in peace.
