Jean Numa Augustin of Miami, Florida, and Petit-Goâve, Haiti, passed away on a Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at 87. After several weeks of declining health and with the love of his family and prayers, Numa died peacefully with his beloved wife, Manicile Augustin, by his side.
Jean Numa Augustin, known to many, as Numa was born in Jeremie, Haiti, on April 4, 1934, to Maurice Augustin and Marie Elmiza Augustin{born}Francois. He completed his education at College Classique in Jeremie and moved to Port-au-Prince at 21. He served in the Haitian army as a corporal and served at Army Camp Lamantin in Carrefour. After ending his army career, he became a driver for General Constant in the military.
When Numa arrived in the United States in Miami, FL, he landed a job as a baker at Omni Hotel in Miami, FL. After ten years, he left the job and owned his private trucking business. As a kid, he was in love with driving and trucking. This love over the years he turned into a career. He would, through the years, use his truck to move items and create small business ventures. While he still loved to drive, he loved baking and writing down and creating recipes in his marble notebook as he sat in his backyard.
He would return to Haiti and decided to open a bakery in Petit-Goâve. He sold sweet little pound cakes and bread. By creating the bakery in Petite-Goave, he was able to provide jobs for people in the community. In addition to the bakery, he drilled a water well source, which he made available to the community and also used to provide jobs. As of today, this water supply is still serving the community.
Numa is known for his charismatic personality, ever-present humor, and present, generous, and loving heart. He leaves behind his loving wife, Manicile Augustin.
